C7 corvette 3.0 litre v8 turbo confirmed
Probably not the best place to post this, but I thought it was very interesting http://autos.yahoo.com/news/next-cor...turbo-v-8.html

Melting Slicks
Saw this posted on Autoblog last week. Nothing was confirmed at that time though. This article is also fairly vague on absolute confirmation.
Did I miss somewhere that it said for sure this is going to happen?
edit: Just noticed this:
Not sure I trust Yahoo Cars though. Anyone able to prove this is for real yet?

A very senior GM executive also confirmed that the new engine will be turbocharged, which will help yield a broad torque curve and maximum performance under a variety of driving conditions. The engine is expected to deliver in excess of 400 horsepower

If it ain't broke don't fix it. GM needs to keep on track and move toward increasing engine efficiency and power output. Pushrod engines are compact but overhead cam 4 valve engines flow a ton of air.
I don't want to see a significant shift like that. It's dramatic and could upset the brand/model (Corvette) heavily. Investing 131 million in the facility to continue production shows that GM is committed to what is coming and believes in it. There is no doubt efficiency is the name of the game, and that the Corvette will follow the lead of it's GT2 race car.
I call less displacement and same power with some newly developed technologies like direct injection, variable timing, etc. Turbo's, split windows, retro....please god...no.
I can't deny turbo's as a viable alternative to displacement, as I've built turbo cars professionally for a decade. I just have a hard time seeing them find their way under the hood of a vette. Low displacement V8 turbo sounds fun though I will admit. Turbo's introduce reliability issues for a company that really doesn't get into turbocharging much....could be a risk.

I'm suprised they are playing with turbos again after the ZR1 development one they tried burned to the ground. Though perhaps they have continued development on it this whole time and it is now ready for the public.

The custodians of the Corvette soul seem to have no idea why people are attracted to the Corvette soul.
If they wanted a "euro style" car, they would - well, buy a "euro style"c ar.
