Do they prefer it to be boxed at the post office or can I just slap the shipping label directly on the tire after they have weighed it and send it on it's way?
I have 1 stock size rear Goodyear Eagle F1 tire that I would like to sell on the forum, but was wondering what kind of pain I would have when shipping it.
No need to box. I have shipped and received many tires as bare tires with a shipping label on them. In fact, this is how the major online companies ship their tires (discount tire, tirerack, etc).
Also, don't bother with USPS for just about anything. Fedex or UPS.
Impossible to tell. I assume 25-30lbs, you're talking probably minimum $20 if it's relatively close by. If it's from one coast to the other, or to a remote location (boonies) it could be easily double that.

I shipped four tires from the midwest to Washington state and if I recall correctly, the cost was around $110-120 for all four. So about $30 each. Used UPS and just cling wrapped the tires then stuck a lable on each one with plenty of shipping tape to keep it secure.
