Hey gang,
I found this and was wondering if it would be a good option for those "unique" rear view mirrors that some of us have (where a Blendmount won't work).
I'm not sure about drilling holes into the back of the mirror though...has anyone tried one of these?
Cool idea. I never would have thought about drilling into the rear of the mirror. I take it this is all accomplished with the stock detector mount that comes with the unit?
Check the vid again. That is NOT a Vette mirror. It isn't electro-chromatic, it has no reading/courtesy lights.....
I've never tore open a rear veiw mirror but the electronics has to go somewhere.
YOU try it first and let us know how it comes out.
I have the whacky 2004 mirror mount that prevents the Blendmount, however after watching the video again, I think I will go with the metal arm that connects to the passenger sun visor mount.

I have used that one as well as the Blendmount and I can tell you I've never been satisfied with either of those two designs. The visor mount cantilevers the V1 so much that i bounces badly over even moderate bumps. Drove me crazy. The Blendmount, mounted to the mirror, was better but still allowed the V1 to rattle and bounce a bit to my annoyance after spending so much for it.
The two best mounts I have used are the factory mirror suction cup bracket with the V1 pushed foward against the windshield to stabilize it when mounted in the Vette and the custom setup I came up with in my dd MINI Cooper using the factory clip reversed and held solidly in place with help from the rearview mirror.
My $.02 anyway.

I sacrificed the bracket from one of the aftermarket units to come up with a mount for my remote display.

Thanks for the feedback Patches. BTW - I Bet that Mini is a blast to drive through the California hills!
Also, how did you get the Blendmount to fit with the OEM mirror mount? I have the same mirror and the Blendmount can't attach to it.

Unlike some detectors, the V1 case has square sides so that it can slide out of a holder. As the enclosed link shows, when a power connector is relocated to the front of the V1 and a slide type holder is made, the detector can be removed or replaced fast and easy. The power connector remains in the holder so when the V1 is docked it is also connected to power, there is no loose wire that has to be plugged in or out. Using the sunvisor stop screw for mounting also places the detector out of your field of vision instead of creating a blind spot below the mirror. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...v1-holder.html

Ya, my commute is 30 miles of winding, canyon roads through the Ortega Hwy and the last 15 after that are a straight 75 mph blast up the 5 so lots of fun quotient as commutes go. Mini is perfect for it abd gives great gas mileage.
The Blendmount I used was on the wife's non-electrochromic mirror so, no issues with the fit on hers. It won't fit my '02 with electrochrimic mirror - I tried it.
I used a metal strap from a sink trap, painted it black, and bent to fit the detector tight against the bottom of the mirror. Then I spliced into the mirror wires after testing which ones were good for power and ground. Cost nothing, and virtually disappears. This is a VERY simple thing to do.
