Does GTE stand for Gas Turbine Engine?
Did the overall winning car use a "normal" engine i.e. V-8, V-12 or ?

I will assume that you are being honest and did an answer to your question.
No GTE does not stand for Gas Turbine Engine. It is one of the four classes that race in the 24 Hours of Lemans. The P1 and P2 and the GTE-P and GTE-A. Both of these last two classes are made up of cars that appear as though they came from a dealership with the exception of body work that helps in the aerodynamics. The Corvette that is raced actual uses the same frame that comes on the ZR-1. The class with the P is made up of professional race teams where as the class with the A is considered an amateur class which is not 100% accurate. Although some of the drivers are not true professional drivers they all have experience, but the cars in this class are normally a year old or older and cannot run in the P class any longer.
The fastest of the four classes is the P 1 and then the P2 class and these are called the Prototype class. These cars are a specialty car designed for one purpose and that is racing. They are extremely sophisticated and run component that are on the cutting edge, but will in many cases end up in street cars within a few years.
The overall winning car was designed and produced by Audi and was powered by a Diesel engine. There are only two manufacturers using the diesel power one is the Audi and the other is the Peugeot. All the other cars in the P1 and P2 are using normal gasoline engines.
I hope this helps answer your questions.
Thanks....never did understand all the nuances of auto racing. Looking at the "Official" results I see that not all cars complete the same number of laps....why is that? Yes, I'm being honest...I went to the Indy 500 about 10 years ago...sat on the infield right next to the pit stops. Watching them change tires, etc was pretty fascinating. LeMans is a different type of race with lots of variables apparently. Looks like Audi has a lock on this race for the last decade.

Great answer!
It is surprising that Corvette engineers can produce so much power with the restricted intake imposed on the C6R by the rules committee.
No, none of these cars are stock. However compared to other forms of Auto racing they are much more stock then others, The Corvette as I mentioned does use the same frame as you would get if you purchased a ZR-1, but from there they change the engine add all the safety equipment carbon fiber body panels and all kinds of electronic and much more. If you have the chance to watch an American LeMans race this year you will see that all the GT cars will look much like there street counterpart, but in reality these are purposely built race cars. The C6-R Corvette race car is actually running a 5.5 liter engine whereas the base Corvette has a 6.2 liter engine and the Z06 has a 7.0 liter engine. The ZR-1 puts out more horsepower then the Corvette race car.
A few months ago Car & Driver did a side by side comparison on the ALMS (American LeMans Series) race cars and their street counterpart. It was a great article and if you have a chance to get a copy you would see the difference.
Anybody here take advantage of the live video feed from the cockpit of #73 on the speed channel? It was amazing!!! Closest thing to being in the car with the driver. WOW!!!!!
Idid go almost the entire race. I had the TV going with the race and the in car shot on the computer. When the race was off TV and on the interent I had two screens going. My wife ask me how it was going and I said great as long as we don't wreck and I get a face full of airbag.

Now that I've been able to rest a bit, and regain some of my faculties, I wonder if Godug was holding that 73 car back a bit, and letting the
74 take the lead. Right after thay went green after clearing the 74
mess, it's like they flipped a switch, and Tommy, Olly and Garcia were
running like a scalded cat!
Nothing made me happier after Magnussen's crash than watching Milner erase the lead the 458 had and then have Garcia step in and keep gapping the 458 and M3 for the rest of the race!
I have it recorded and have not watched it yet. This takes a bit of the fun out
I apologize for this. I guess it was a combination of sleep deprivation and joy that it was accomplished on the 10 anniversary of their first win and the 100 anniversary of Chevrolet.
Congratulations to the entire Corvette Racing Team!
The Corvettes were 1st 2nd and fouth, but no matter what year or what race, there's going to be a CR-6 right up front somewhere. It's great watching history being made.

Ten years ago Corette Racing driving a C5-R (2001 monel) won the 24 Hours of LeMans for teh first time in there history. They just did it again to celebrate that anniversary as well as the 100 Year Anniversary of Chevrolet.
Great job Corvette Racing.
