A Buddy of mine just took his 03' anniversary edition coupe in for an oil change and fuel filter. The mechanic told him there is no external fuel filter on 03's, that it is inside the fuel tank! Is that true for all 03's? Did they change the fuel filters on late model run 03's?

The fuel system did change mid-2003 but I don't know for sure if the early systems even had an external fuel filter. But the mid 2003's and up don't have one (mine rolled off the assembly line in early December of 2002 and has the new system).

Here is a response by Hib Halverson over at the Corvette Action Center:
in mid-'03, GM changed the fuel system on Corvettes and moved the fuel filter to inside the left fuel tank. Once they did that, it also claimed in normal circumstances, the filter never needs to be replaced. Let's hope so. Pulling the fuel tank is a significant PIA.
A running change was made by GM on '03 models. IIRC, it was around Oct/Nov '02 time frame.
My car has the external filter, and was built in Sept, 2002. My Buddy's anniversary Coupe was built in April, 2003, so the Oct/Nov. 02 changeover seems accurate.
I just changed my fuel filter on my 2004. It only cost me 1700.00 to do it.
To clarify, my fuel pump went out on me. But with the late 03 and 04's I'll never know if it was the fuel pump or the fuel filter that was the issue. With everything you have to do to get to the fuel filter/pump you might as well change it all out.
