Hey CF family! I'm looking to install a back-up camera in my vert. If you got pics please share them - please add your opinions, how did you install them etc. I did a search and found an excellent post by Patches other than Patches' thread the pickings are slim and I would love to see different versions and installs....plus, all of you are so smart and creative...unlike myself.
You betcha! The "Gentex GENK352 Auto dimming mirror with rear camera display" is the same as what they put in the Tacomas. Instead of paying $400 for a new one, I found one on that auction site for half the price. It works just fine.

Cool, I have a Tacoma...where did you hook-up the power to? Nice job Mister!
for a camera and mirror combo http://shop.doubledmods.com/Camera-R...r-Kit_c709.htm
these will give you an option if your going DD later. Can use same camera as well later on to connect to the DD unit you decide on as well

I ran a wire down to the foot well fuse box area and picked up a live wire there. It was pink or orange, if I remember right. A quick search here will get you the info. That's how I found it, and many more useful pieces. Gotta love the cForum!

Get a good camera - one that hopefully has some type of depth perception ability. Without the depth perception, you will be able to see what's behind you but you will not be able to really determine how close it is to you
Nice DIY camera setups. It's something I never thought I'd need until we bought a Tahoe with a backup camera. Now I wish my Silverado Crew Cab had one.
Be aware that some state statutes prohibit any portion of the plate to be obscured/altered, including the state name. Installation off the plate might be a better plan.
I didn't obstruct the plate, the O in California just happens to be a camera with night vision...I thought it was strange too, rare option I guess.

Thanks Dennis, do you sale only the camera? I already have a DD...but I do need a bezel.

Nice! I like the way you improvised the bracket. Where in SD are you? I just moved there.

How are you JW? I'm still in the fd, had some crews fly to eastern AZ to help out. I'm hoping that things are getting better.

The fire crews are doing a great job, unfortunately the high winds have allowed the fires jump the low % containment lines in some areas where residents were already allowed to return home. More evacuations expected. And new fires breaking out everyday it seems.
Right now, pretty much the entire eastern half of the state is burning. Hundreds of thousands of acres of forest land burned (Wallow Fire is largest in state history now), approx. 60 homes destroyed, more in other structures gone. We go through this every year...man caused. We haven't even started monsoon yet. The rains will bring relief but the lightening strikes will bring more fires.
Did you ever start law school?
I take it you brought your Vette to CA? What do you need the camera for? Watching out for ex-husbands/boyfriends?
