As most know, my car has been back for corrections after the fact for numerous items. The last was and continuing problem is the transmission still popping out of gear in 6th, after the transmission was fully rebuilt.
The car has been back in the shop for three weeks now for this problem, and all i know now is that a new 5-6 fork was installed and that the transmission has been removed and installed 5 times. The transmission still popped out of gear after the fork replacement and has stated that they have been on the phone with GM Tech dept, Tremec to find out what the problem is.
As of the 21st, the shop stated that they have driven the car after whatever else was done and that it didnt pop out i havent heard anything more from the shop since then. i only contact them through email as i want everything to be documented, but the shop made a statement concerning using a C6 shifter in a C5.
They stated that GM told the shop that they do not agree with putting a C6 shifter and box in a C5, as they claim that it will cause premature wear and tear on parts. The shop somewhat disagrees with this, but, has anyone else heard this before?
i bought the shift assembly from RSD, and i know they wouldnt sell this if it was wrong for the C5. Plus there are many others out there that have changed also.
Hope to hear from the shop this week as i still need it dyno tuned, and need my transportation back. They state that they want to make sure that there isnt a problem before i get it back.

I've not heard that the C6 shifter should not be used in the C5 - there have been plenty of members here that have made the swap and have not reported any issues, But, if you want to be sure that that is not the problem, put the stock C5 shifter back in (like mentioned above) and see if you still have the issue of it popping out of 6th. I know it is extra work, but at this point what have you got to lose.

It was jumping out when the original shift assembly was in there, so thats not it. i replaced the unit with the C6 after it was popping out.
I'm sure this is not the issue but kind of funny story. I had someone tell me their car would constantly pop out of gear. I would drive it all around the city and could not do it so I rode with her and watched her drive. Then out of nowhere boom it pops out pulling out to make a left turn. I continued watching her and how she drove. Turns out she was hovering her left foot over the clutch but pressing it in just very slightly. Adjusted her peddle and all was good. I'm sure that's not your issue but your troubles reminded me of that.

I wished I spoke to you under different circumstances but let's get to this issue. When the transmission pops out of gear, the synchronizer ring is not fully engaged on to the engagement teeth (as long as the teeth are not worn). If everything related to the 6th gear was replaced, I would inspect the shifter "gate" located on the top of the transmission just under the "dog house". If you have anything blocking the gate, that could stop the shifter from fully engaging into 6th. Also, Have the shop measure the shifter rod (part that goes through the front cover) when engaging 2nd, 4th and 6th to be sure the measurements are the same.

thanks Rick, but have a question. if the distance is not the same, then i take it that there is blockage in the "doghouse"?

If the distance is not the same then there could be a blockage but that could be in few places including the "gate". The 5-6/reverse shift rail should be inspected also.
