Sanctuary, I fully agree. I'm glade my car is still OK with no problems being 4 years old now. Maybe 98, the year after the first C5 is one of the better years?

We have just over 45,000 miles on our 1998.

No major problems at all, two recalls, Column lock and headlamp plugs.

Have the Mongoose 400 SS package on the car and pull 415 hp. Top speed at 165+.

One of the best cars we have ever had and we have had 22 new cars in 21 years!

Hmmm, they don't have UAW's in Japan do they??? i wonder if that has something to do with it? Na, couldn't be.

Exactly. I was hinting at that in my statement. Oh yeah, robots don't get tired either...

What I don't get is in my country (New Zealand), unions are frowned upon and seen as a hinderance to good business. Supposedly this is an American idea, yet you guys still have these huge Auto Unions. What's up with that? :D

Well I'm not a UAW fan but let me see, Unions in General produce and keep jobs which then in turn stimuate the economy. So when my car, which was created by workers with low job ethics while being protected by the UAW, begins its inevitable collapse, it goes in for repairs resulting in outrageous repair bills paid by GM or the owner, depending on the warranty status. Ah, that's how the economy is stimulated - I get it.

37K miles on my 99 FRC and only the glove box broke. The dealer replaced the latch mechanism. Remember, the more dodads you get the more failure modes you introduce

Don't know about the mileage, but as others have said, the C5 has a tendency to break the same items. Mine so far in 15,000 miles:

Leaky left differential seal for axle
Heater blower motor
Rings replaced
Differential fluid changed due to rubbing noise
Check valve in fuel system replaced
Parking brake mechanism in console replaced

Thank goodness it was all under warranty. Now I am glad I do have an extended warranty also.

However, still love the car.

Mine is a 2002 with 2000 miles. List so far:

1. Replaced "throw out" bering
2. Rattle from the exaust..unable to find.
3. Passenger door hindge replaced
4. Shifter still won't go into reverse well..dealer 3x for that.
5. Seat memory module acting up...dealer cant get it to act up.....but I can :(

It is the most unreliable car I have ever owned. There is a reason people buy Toyota's and Infiniti's.....If they made a car as fun as my Vette, when its not in the shop, I would buy one also.

I'm a firm believer in buying Vette's used and over 50k from someone who has put some time modding it himself, not at a shop.

Also, the owner should at least know how to change the oil himself, change the headers or change a stock squeeky pulley with something better then the GM replacement part.

I don't ever remember hearing that a Vette was reliable or a daily driver but I've always heard it was easy to work on if you didn't get all the electronic crud like Dual Temp controls (uhhh ok?) or Memory seats (*SMACKS FOREHEAD*) Telescoping... .. aw forget it.

IT'S AN ENTRY LEVEL EXOTIC SPORTS CAR that is relatively simple to work on and get parts for.

Buy a Ferrari and tell me how often you are at the tuner a year and how much that tuner costs you or how much a new clutch costs. Is there any aftermarket?

Default c5 RELIABLITY AND QUALITY SUCKS- PROVEN, SIMPLE!

It is quite simple-
CORVETTE IS A GM CAR>
QUALITY SUCKS, RELIABLITY SUCKS
BUT THE CONVT IS FUN IN THE SUN.
NOT SO MUCH FUN WHEN IT IS TOWED
INTO THE DEALER.
I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER ONE,
FOR CERTAIN.
I THINK GM SUCKS!

Here is a list of the vehicles that I have owned since I started purchasing cars for myself. Can you see a trend here? Say what you want about GM quality. GM vehicles have been "berry berry good to me".

1979 Camaro Berlinetta (123K miles when sold) *
1983 Camaro Z28 (134K miles when sold)*
1988 S10 Blazer (208K miles when sold)*
1997 S10 PU Extended cab (currently 128K miles)#
2000 S10 Blazer LT (currently 111K miles)#
2004 Corvette Coupe (currently 2.1K miles)!

* less than $500 in repairs outside warranty period
# less than $1500 in repairs outside warranty period
! under warranty

I thought my Vette was great. I have had a few very minor problems-'-not too important to me. But recently I had a low engine oil message come up and I had to add a quart of oil...

Please Corvette of mine--break the American car stereotype... Don't burn any more oil...

Default 98 coupe 100k

Here's my list. Although the car runs like a top, I do feel for the money, they should be more reliable.

- Window Rattle - Come on GM..A car like this should not have an with it's windows rattling everytime you close the door
- Seat Loose - still loose
- Seat belt Issue
- Column Lock $600 dealer - hope the new recall will pay
- Trans cooler leak $1000 dealer - Had to flush out the cooling system and my trans-axel. Luckily I found the leak by accident.
- Harmoic balancer - I've replaced about $350 worth of stuff, now I'm down to the balancer which should be another $500

And somehow I still love my vette!
