Default Holy Supercar Batman!

The more I drive the C5 with the mods I've done the more amazed I am at how super this car is!

Today I went to go pick my wife up from dialisys via Alamenda/Ralston Ave to 92. I was in the left lane of Ralston with more than 1/2 a mile to go before I needed to get in the right lane for the 92 on-ramp. There was a lot of traffic in the right lane and of course everyone (as usual) is following so close there was no place for me to merge into the right lane. I finally got past the last light right before the ramp with 3 cars left ahead of me in the right lane. I thought I'd miss the turn and have to double back, but then the Jeep at the front decided to slow down. I dropped into 2nd and hit the gas about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way. I shot past all 3 cars in less than a second, moved into the right lane and whipped through the first turn, hit 3rd and pulled through the next 2 turns exiting the ramp and merging into a big empty space on 92 doing about 75. I never did see any of the other traffic from the ramp make it onto 92.

What really amazed me was how the car responded and how it stayed completely composed, especially through the first turn. It felt like it was on rails.

Anyone who thinks that a C5 isn't a world-class Supercar is, as Dirty Harry once said "...a legend in his own mind".

I realize it's a base model C5 (Z51 and minor mods not withstanding) but I'm still very impressed with what the car can do. Maybe it's just because I'm still new to the whole C5 thing.

Yeah, I have to admit - after I got on 92 i thought to myself that it was a kind of stupid move. I should have just gone up to the next light and turned around.

I am constantly impressed with the level of performance my base suspension 98 C5 has after 110K on chasis and 24K on engine, the responsiveness can't be matched. My step son's 99 LS1 Camaro with 80K is just a ricketty slush box compared to the C5 in my garage.

I think we can tell that you are really enjoying the C5, not only the driving but the ownership as well and that's great. I pulled a Smokey & the Bandit manuver the other day for much the same reason (I was about to get squeezed out of my exit lane). In the moment it was a thrill but I wound up wishing that I would have just gone to the next exit. I like my car too and am looking forward to doing a couple of mild mods that might result in an additional 40hp nothing big just an improvement. How the 4 and 500 hp drivers restrain themselves would interest me too know? Anywho, you going with 3:73's or a Z tranny?

Man, I really enjoy reading your stories . They always seem to make me smile because I feel the same way. I absolutely love my Vette. I daily drive an '02 Mustang GT that is mildly modded and I love that car as well but everytime I get back in my Vette on the weekends it reminds me of well built it is.

Now if I can just finish up this H/C/I/E + suspension and a little 100 shot of nitrous.... my opinion might change... slightly towards the better

I really need to take it for a dyno pull just to see what it's making now. I'm putting off a tune because I'm wanting to do a set of 1.8 rockers first. I'd love to do a small smog-legal cam, but I think if I were going to spend that kind of $$ I'd do 3.90 or 4.10 gears first.

I've had about 50 cars in my life (plenty of them being 60's & 70's muscle cars) and I gush about this one because it is so many levels above anything I've had before. On top of that to have this kind of performance yet ride in luxury and get easily over 30 mpg is just phenomenal. After driving for 31 years it shows me just how much cars have improved.

Just because you're not impressed with your "plain Jane Corvette" doesn't mean he can't be. Now really.

Yes.... this would heighten the way you define super car lol . Try 500+ WHP, crusing in luxury and still getting 30+ mpg... can't beat that!!

I also have a plain Jane Vette. I'm as impressed with mine every single time I get in it and drive. Hell, I'm impressed with it when I glance over at it in the garage. It's a wonderous car. I actually like every thread mcm makes. He love his vette as much as I love mine. I can relate.

Just read what you wrote man. You can always erase that trollish crap and write an apology in it's place.
