Hey guys whats new thanks for the help with the column lock, fixed gm dealer i know but heres is something dont think anyones has heard so hear goes, they changed the column lock motor car is fine well almost, went to pick it up , noticed the lights were up even though they were off tried to reset according to the manual but no go, went back to the dealer and they said you know we didnt touch that meaning the grid on the top of the dash which has the sensor for the twilight or so i thought the tech that worked on the car said above did not touch but i said who loosened the torque screw so i picked up the grid and it just came up but nothing in the little hole (sensor) was gone....now please if iam crazy if you change out the column lock motor and you have to snake the wires to the passenger foot well how do you do it...and how do i get the lights to go down without it......please all help appreciated thanks again for listening..
Are you talking about the sensor on top of the dash toward the lest side of the defroster grill? If so that's the "sun load sensor" and there would be absolutely no reason for a tech to go anywhere near that or remove that portion of the dash (which is kind of a pita to do) while servicing the column lock recall. Maybe they bumped it and knocked it down inside the dash? Pull off the defroster vent and see if it's down there... Since your headlights are on all the time it would make sense that the sensor is still connected to the harness and in a dark place (inside the dash)
To get your lights to go off cycle through the options menu on the DIC and turn twilight sentinel off... Then you'll be able to control the lights manually from the stalk on the left side of the steering column (unless you have a Canadian spec car)...
Also, the column lock service at the dealer was probably a waste of your time (and money?). The gm recalls do not adequately address this problem. Read the column lock sticky at the top of the c5 tech section...
Good luck
Also... If the car wasn't having this problem before you took it in and the dealership refuses to make something this simple right for you I would strongly recommend that you NEVER take your car back there. I would tell you to take it back and complain until they fixed it, but honestly I wouldn't want them going anywhere near the car... Jmho

That is one looooong sentence. I couldn't maintain a train of thought through it. The forum doesn't charge extra by the sentence or paragraph. I agree turn off the twilight sentinel in the DIC and see if the lights work with the stalk. That will tell you if it is the sensor or not.
