To greenlight88...I live in Harrison, Arkansas. The local Fina station has a sign posted in front of his pumps that says "No Ethanol." There are two other stations around town that also do not have ethanol "added" to the fuel they sell. Some stations do not have ethanol added to their premium grade fuel but do add to the 87 and 89 octane fuel. Ask around and you'll find someone that sells gas without ethanol. You might check with someone at a local lawn mower or outboard motor shop. That reminds me, the local marina sells gas with no ethanol. Yamaha reccommends the use of Marine Stabil in every tank to help eliminate moisture, the effects of gas turning sour and the softening effect ethanol has on gaskets and hoses. Filling the tank on any machine does help eliminate moisture build-up but, it does not prevent gasket and hose softening nor does it stop the fuel from going sour. Ask at a marine dealer or mower repair shop about how many motors they get in, including brand new equipment, that someone has run ethanol fuel in without Stabil. No, I don't work for Stabil, I just use it and have had NO PROBLEMS even the ehanol fuels. Good Luck in finding an ethanol free station.
Have you checked the price of E-85 lately? Most of the auto manufacturers warn users to expect a mileage loss of close to 30%. In S/E Michigan E-85 is selling for about 30 cents less than regular unleaded per gallon. That's less than a 10% discount on the E-85. Who, in their right mind would pay that much for E-85 over regular unleaded? Not only are you paying more, you are paying more more often because you will use 30% more to travel the same distance. And, except for the E-85, Michigan does not require the fuel sellers to disclose how much alcohol is in their blend of gasoline.
I wish we had more E-85 stations here. I could make more power, safely, than what I am getting with 91 octane. Then again, my car is FAR from stock.
Yeah, this should not be a sticky....All that's going to happen from running 10% ethanol is that you're o2's are going to have to have positive fuel trims to make up for it to maintain stoich. In addition to this, they will add that same amound of fuel to WOT. This results in being RICH at WOT and there are definately some ponies to pick up with a good tune for the type of fuel you'll be using. I have my vette tuned with E10 and my Trans Am tuned with pure gas since that ones sits a lot more for long periods of time. This is a good website to reference if you're looking for a place that sells pure gasoline with no ethanol blends. You might be lucky and have a station or two near by.
