4000-6000 sounds like way too much money for a rebuild. I say avoid AAMCO..
My son had his replaced at 130,000 miles with a remanufactured GM unit by his uncle but only because he "did something stupid" while showing off to some girl riding with him. He wouldn't tell me what he did to cause it, but he paid for it so I didn't press the matter. Probably reved it up in neutral and slammed into first or into reverse or god knows what. I think he paid $2200 for the trans and $500 to his Uncle. Oh, when I called AAmco to ask about a replacement they said it would be anywere from $4000-$6000 depending what was wrong with it.

If your transmission isn't lasting 150,000 miles, or you are surprised you made it to 50,000 or so, then WHY DID YOU BUY ONE???????
I've put a lot of Chevy transmissions through some work, usually pulling a trailer and a load, and ususally get 180,000 to over 200,000 on them.
In something like a Corvette, if you are not abusing it, then why won't it go 200,000 or more?
If it isn't, something is seriously wrong.
So what about these 200,000, 250,000, and 300,000 C5 owners out there? How many miles did you get before repairing/replacing your transmission?

I'm at about 96000 on mine, with the last ~6000 running a supercharged 501 rwhp. Runs good, no complaints, and should it ever go I'll probably do a RPM built-up one... but I'm not holding my breath!

First one failed at 68,000 miles. But the cause was the flex plate exploded causing everything to lockup at WOT. Sheared the top of the starter off, blew several holes in the bellhouseing.
After we got everything fix, tranny was slipping too. Had that tranny rebuilt. Lasted about 300 miles and the pump failed and it self destructed. Rebuilt again. That lasted about 35,000 miles and started slipping.
I have a RPM Stage IV now a Vigilante 2600 stall converter. 117,000 miles now and still running strong.

I have a 98,w/110K on the clock. I did a H/C swap and rebuilt the drivetrain with a Stage
5 RPM Transmission. The original A4 was still going strong even with a Yank SS3200 and
tune. So the trans. should last with a little preventive maintenance!!!
