Default Caution, slight thread detour ahead...

Patches,

Thanks for the write up, very thorough and informative, as usual...
So Cal heat aside I noticed your rocker arms and I was wondering if you had engine mods that contributed to deciding to go the dewitts retrofit? (cam, heads, etc...?)

Yes, Michael. I have those mods and more that contribute to the heat created by the engine. It's never run outside the limits of the factory specs but it's hotter here than anywhere I've driven it so no point pushing my luck.

Fixed the last bits - did an idle relearn this afternoon and picked up a new Optima Yellow Top battery to replace my 9-year-old Red Top, R.I.P. Hope this new battery serves me as well as the last and the Red Top in the wife's C5. The Red Top I handed in as a core looked brand new still.

Are you experiencing much of a reduction in coolant temperature with the Dewitts unit installed? I am contemplating the purchase myself.

Looks like you kept the factory fans - any reason you did not want to go with higher flowing aftermarket fans? Just curious....

congrats on the mod!

Haven't tested it to the extreme yet - I hope to be out and about next weekend with it and will report how well it does. It's very hot here and should be an excellent test. I also dropped in a new 180 deg. Hypertech stat yesterday.

congrats on the mod!
I wanted to see if the stock fans could supply enough air with the double-capacity radiator and if an aftermarket fan is needed. DeWitts said it's not really required if you are not racing which I'm not. My temps have always been within factory spec - this mod was for the increased ambient temps here and for insurance.

since all the main details are in this post:
Has anyone bought the c6 bypass setup, cut the hardlines off and drilled/tapped for NPT fittings so soft lines could be used?

would this not be possible?

You'd probably be better off buying the improved racing version, would probably be cheaper and definitely a much cleaner install.

I'm assuming you're talking about using the bypass for a similar purpose.

OOO I didn't realize that was the brand name, i want the bypass valve style for the oil restriction issues flowing through a radiator cooler.

While the install is not fun, undoing the drivers side motor mount and lifting that side of the engine with manifolds off there is enough room to install the c6 style lines on a c5. The lines aren't really designed to be pushed or pulled much so opening up that space helps greatly.
