Just bought that '04 4-speed automatic and have a dumb question. Why is it when I floor it, it will sometimes choose to go fast and other times only SLOWLY accelerate? I've tried different speeds and TCS on/off but same difference. Do I have to be at a certain rpm? I have also not tried/forgot about competitive driving mode in the car, will that get rid of this problem? *most childish thread of the year*

could be a clogged fuel pump/filter. Have you put treatment in your tank yet? seafoam etc? cleaned your fuel lines?

It sounds like where the WOT downshift points are set. The WOT D/S (i.e. "passing gear") points are set based on MPH and Throttle position. It may be that when you mash the throttle, you may or may not meet the D/S criteria (MPH and TPS) to envoke the D/S. The difference you are seeing between fast and slow could be the speed you are going or how far you physically push down the accelerator.
FYI - The MPH and TPS setting that the shifts happen at are fully programable and can be set to your liking.
Could be sooooo many things noone could list them for you. Could be the weather, could be the gas, could be what rpm you are flooring it at could be anything retarding your timing, could be all in your head. If I where you I would get someone who can log some data and see what is really going on instead of guessing in the wind.Just my $1.25 input
