slightly upsetting. but I'm hoping its no big deal.
this is not the leather boot in the radio bezel. but if you pull that up the rubber boot around the shifter as it enters the box. just in front of the shifter there's a small tear in this boot. would that be anything to worry about?
I just noticed it today. thing is, its a C6Z06 shifter I bought new from Gene about a year ago, no idea where this tear came from. the shifter was making a minor squeaking noise when moving into gear, at least the tear provided an easy way to get some spray lithium grease inside there. squeak gone, but should I be concerned about this small tear?
Dont worry it is just there for sound deadening and believe me it really works...try driving it without. It covers the shifter box assembly and keeps noise down to non-existant. Cracks if they bother you could be filled in with some sealant...filler such as "goop" while the mat is in place. Or you could replace the entire mat. Either way no issue what so ever. Sleep good tonight!! Greetings, Rob

Not at all, it is just an estetic piece and can easily be repaired by removing it and putting a patch on or stiching from the inside. Or you can order in one from the famous auction site and have it reinstalled. Dont worry, and how did you discouver this in the first place? lol
thanks!
shifter was making a minor squeaking noise. before I switched to the Z shifter my stock one did that once, I shot some WD-40 down around the lower boot area and it shut up right away. I was going to do just that again when I found the problem. although I do take the radio bezel off far too often for mods! I would have found it eventually.
That rubber boot is an nvh isolator but a tear won't hurt it. In fact, I've cut clearance notches in mine a couple of times to route cables through there from under the car for my WB O2, EGT and my cutout harness. NBD
