Yesterday morning I got on 101 in Belmont to cruise down to work in Santa Clara. After briskly merging with traffic I settled down to 68 mph and then reset the avg fuel economy. No cruise control, just carefully maintained 66-68 for 20 miles. My average for that was 36.6 mpg.
For me it was the other way around. Who would have ever thought that such a fun car could be so economical?
.
Either way you look at it, it's awesome!
I've had people flat out call me a liar when I mentioned that I can get 30mpg on the highway in my Corvette or my Camaro. Double overdrive manual transmission, slick aero, light weight, and a great engine design == amazing fuel economy given the amount of power on tap.

Yep, you should have seen the look on the face of the new guy at our apartments. He has a Fox-body Mustang. When I told him I get at least 34 mpg on the freeway he thought I was joking, then realized I was serious. All of a sudden he was a lot more interested in learning about the Vette

My '99 is heavily modded, including a 3.42 (with auto), and still gets nearly 26 mpg at interstate speeds. My wife's stock '01 vert pushes 30 mpg. I regularly get into heated arguments with people who think I am lying to them about it.
anything above 17mpg avg and you aren't having enough fun!!
Well Im having plenty of fun especially listening to the exhaust note after the long tube install when hitting those higher rpms and my average actually went up after the install to 19.7 calculated city driving.
Our club had an economy run last year. Through the edge of own,,some 2 lane highway and lots of twisty country roads. I actually PASSED a couple of vettes ******* it on the 2 lanes. Total of 85 miles,, and I took second in the C5 class with 33.71 calculated,,missed 1st by about .6mpg!! On the flip side I've had a best of 13.08@110.24 at Gateway International Raceway(now out of business for now ),,cant beat that with a stick!!! Goes like the proverbial bat outa hell when you want,,MPG like an econo caar the other times!! Gotta love it!!!
