I have a 2002 Z06 with an 434 ci LSX with upgraded heads, Cam, 4:10 gears etc etc... I was told that Royal Purple was the best engine oil-transmission fluid- and rear end fluid to use. Is this correct? What weight would you reccomend for a motor of this calliber? and what kind of fluids would you use for the trans and rear end? is Automatic transmission fluid ok for this set up (i know this unlikely, but it was mentioned to me)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I use Royal Purple in my car. For the differential use MaxGear 75-90, which also has limited slip additive in the mix, no extra additive to buy. For the trans I use Synchromax. It is the only manual gear lube designed for manuals that require ATF. In the engine I've used 10-30 and 5-30. I spoke to a rep from Royal Purple and he advised me that 5-30 is what GM recommends and it would be fine, but in warmer weather I've used 10-30. I actually have not noticed any difference between the weights. I will say that my engine has 95,000 miles on it with no leaks and absolutely zero consumption between oil changes. I also hadn't been satisfied with the way my car shifted. I tried several different brands and Royal Purple made the most noticeable difference in shifting smoothness.
Here's a tip if you are going to change the oils yourself. The diff and trans are not easy to refill because of where the fill holes are. I purchased at Advance this pump device that has a cap that goes onto your oil bottle, but it has two different thread sizes in one cap depending on the bottle your fluid comes in. It worked perfectly and made filling so mucn easier and neater. It costs $10.

Thanks guys for all of the invaluable help. I especially like the trains and the horse. Honestly I always come to the forum for advice because there are so many members who have a depth of knowledge that is second to none. I don't have the experience to make the best choices in these areas so I know to ask. Thanks again. Joe
Royal Purple is the best off-the-shelf oil you can buy probably because it is an actual synthetic. M1 is not. I have used RP in my stock LS1 and never had a problem with it but, it does not do anything noticeable from the driver standpoint. There were claims of "run 20 degrees cooler by using RP blah blah blah" and that simply wasn't the case. At least not in TX LOL. Again, I had to problems with the oil itself, just the extraordinary claims. I use AMSOIL now thanks to Subdriver.
