I noted in Consumer Reports that there were fuel system problems with my year Corvette which is an 04. The problems are with the cross over fuel line and with tanks leakage. The following websites I got from my son, an ASE mech, might be of help to some of you. In short, the smart thing is to not overfill your tanks with cool gas which will expand when it warms in the tanks. Thanks for your help on other issues.

Is this your 2 or 3rd post about CR ******* the 2004? I think you need to put the mag in the garbage, Maybe you should of read it before you bought your car seeing you are so worried about it, This is the largest Corvette forum around and if what you are saying was true don't you think it would be well known on here?
Here is an idea, Go enjoy your car instead of worring about it.
I see you are a new member.

If I listened to everything reported in those magazines, I would be enjoying my brand new and exciting Toyota Corolla or Prius.

The links he provided offer some good information. The '04s have experienced some fuel system issues and while it has been documented here on the forum already, this is info I have not seen. Thanks for posting it up. And no, I'm not a fan of Consumer Report - in fact I don't even read that mag.

I do enjoy it, but being an Army aviator for 24 years I am detail oriented and enjoy the forum, save the smart aleck comments of a few self annoited kings of Corvettes. If you disagree with something fine, just blow it off and let it go.
Yes the 04's have had issues with the crossover pipe. GM sent me a letter notifying me and extended my warranty for a year because of it.
Yeah, I got my letter too. This is Chicken ****. GM should replace the Design Deficency since it is a safety issue. It is (was) their flagship sports car.

It was my intent to help just those few who may have fuel system problems with their Corvettes. I am glad the site info I posted gave you some FRESH info, despite what the few "Kings of Corvettes" we seem to have here on the forum think. Consumer Reports is nothing more than another "forum" in and of itself and no one should rely on it alone and I do not. It is just one source. This forum is another. When it comes to fuel seeps or leaks, that is a zero tolerance issue. For those few people that have problems with their fuel systems they now have more info than they had before. The NHTSA was asked to issue a recall but did not do so presumably because the percentage of cars affected may have not passed their numerical threshold. That said, some cars do have the problems and you are on your own to protect yourself. Good luck V-Jack and enjoy your car.
I used to read CR all the time, over a decade ago. I few years back it seemed to have fallen victim of corp american influence. It's trash now.
By and large, considering the number of products that CR tests they do a darn good job. I do not understand the corp connection. They do not advertise as such for anyone but themselves. They are not the end all source for auto info but not a bad place to check out anyway. I have bought tires they recommended and they have lived up to every expectation I had for them on my F-150 truck. Other things too, like small appliances and such. Refrigerators. You name it. Hard for any organization to get EVERYTHING right but they do a fair job for the CONSUMER when no one else even tries. Give them a break.

I see you have good intentions about passing on useful info. Remember this is a 7 year old car(2004)most all these issues have been discussed at length in the tech forum. As far as this being another forum you are also correct, however this is a Corvette Owner Forum. The amount of info, experience and technical expertise found here dwarfs that of CR's.
I no longer subscribe to CR as I feel they lost their objectivity and became a little 'political'. However, it's a good thing to get as much info as possible.
Thanks for the info. Am pleased that my VIN is not in that range. Good luck to those whose are in the range. Am now very happy to have begun this particular thread.
If your 2004 is within the vin range of 45110258-45125500 make sure that your crossover pipe is leaking before 2014...or before your house burns downs as a result of an admitted manufacture defect...Gm really should have issued a recall not a service adjustment.

Hi 8Vette7, That was useful information and is appreciated. Too bad there are a few negative people on here that just want to be one liner, no help smart asses that hide behind keyboards pretending to be something they are not. I wish they would simply remain silent if they do not intend to be helpful. In your case I simply issue an "Atta-boy!" for trying to be helpful to the forum and its' members. Good luck to you.
