Last week when I was going to a car meet, I put the car in gear and pulled to ebrake to park it and I heard a SNAP! The ebrake still "clicks" normally when I pull it, but it doesn't stop the car anymore. Even before, it didn't work that great (would only actually stop the car at the top click or two) but now it seems like its completely out. Did I snap the cable? Any idea what this could be? Easy fix?
You can trace the cable under the car. I'd remove the rear wheels and check the e-brake myself. Couldve broken where it connects to the rear brake set up but if it doesnt stop the car at all then it did break for sure, only question is where. Theyre not that cheap but its not too expensive. If you do your own brakes and stuff its not too difficult of a job to do, just depends what broke.
DO NOT BUY RAYBESTOS cables!!!! They look good, they're well made, and they DON'T FIT. The actual steel cables are too large for the slots in the transition bracket and the holes in the outboard cable ends are too small for the e-brake lever on the back of the wheel hub.
