On a recent trip I found myself on a freeway where the traffic had me at very slow stop and go for about 45 minutes. The air temperature was 76 to 82 degrees. My O2 ZO6 got up to 240 degrees. I had the AC on, as I have been told that it kicks in the second fan. This morning I was in a parade for about an hour. Same kind of problem. Air temperature in the mid 50s, but unless I ran the AC the car would start over the 200 degree range fast. With the AC on it ran 194 to 198 degrees. Any Ideas........
The specs for 02 are:
1. Low speed fans on at 219 degrees and off at 208.
2. High speed fans on at 228 and off at 217.
At 228, when the high speed fans kick in, the temp start dropping almost immediately... so I've heard lots of people report 230 as a high, but not 240.
Is that the DIC reading? or the guage? (I assume you know the guage is calibrated differently below/above the half-way (top) mark)
You may want to let the car idle and look at the fans and see if they are spinning / what temp they turn on, etc.
How new is your car? I experienced the same thing early on. The car now has 1485 miles on it with several warp speed blasts (my wife there was something wrong with the car when she always found litle black specs behind the rear tires while wiping it down). I haven't experienced the hot problem in a while. By the way your car looked great in the parade. Did you rinse that horse urine off your wheel wells yet? :flag
I now have just over 1400 miles on the car. I don't think there are many more parades in the future. These cars are made to go fast! I thought all of that wet stuff was from the clowns on the fire trucks throwing buckets of water at the crowd :D No matter what on this heating problem, I love this car. :chevy :flag
Just checked out the fans......... from a cold engine, just let it run in the open garage untill the fan-s kicked in. At first the low speed fan did not kick in until about 228 degrees. It cooled back down to around 208. When I turned on the AC both fans came on and cooled to the 190s. Turned the AC off and the low speed fan kicked in before 220 and cooled down fine. So looks like all is well. These beasts just run warm. Thanks! :chevy :flag
Normal...used to drive me crazy on my '94. Think about it, hot running engine, small enclosed compartment, bottom breather...it's going to run hot when you're moving slowly. Trust your fans and they will help to keep it cooler. Best advice: keep moving!
Forgot to mention one thing on the first incident that went to 240 degrees. When I got home, the next morning while cool I removed the cap to check the level of coolant as all I had done before was visually check it by looking at the side of the tank. To bring it up to the cross in the opening I had to add a half gallon of coolant mix. It now appears to be working fine. Just that the High Readings kind of alarmed me. Thanks for your input. :chevy :flag
Make sure you leave the Nitrous bottles off and when in parades be careful when following livestock as the methane gas they emit is heavier than air and the bottom breathers tend to suck it up like a big dust buster and over heat.
