Active Handling RPO JL4, was introduced in the middle of the production year. Competitive driving mode is engaged by holding the traction control button down while the car is stationary. Competitive driving disables traction control and leaves Active Handling activated.
Second generation Active Handling was introduced in 2001. It was standard on the 2004 cars.
I have AH on both of my '98 cars - my black car was built 04/98 and my Pace Car was built 01/98.

Is AH listed as an option on your window stickers? This car was built 10/97.

Competitive driving is engaged by holding down the T/C button for 3 seconds while the car is stationary. A quick stab of the button turns off both T/C and A/H.
In the second generation cars - the Competitive driving mode could be engaged while the vehicle is rolling at a very low speed, it did not have to be stationary.

Thanks for your responses guys, keep them coming
It was introduced in the middle of the '98 production run. It would have been on the window sticker if it was on the vehicle.....it was a $500 option.
It would appear on the RPO sticker which on the 98's is on the bottom of the driver's side cargo compartment cover. Look for JL4 (hint: these are in alphabetical order) option code.

THANKS!
Ours is without, probably good not to encourage my 62 year old dad to wag the tail too much anyway

If your 98 has AH, then yes, it would be listed as an option on the window sticker. It would also have the words Active Handling above the traction control button on the console (at least my '99 had that).
