My coupe's driver side door has always (but periodically) squeeked, clunked, knocked, felt loose, etc. I had put off a repair because the car is mainly a road cruiser and the "noise" happens mostly at low speeds. It had gotten worse lately, so I decided to finally get it fixed. Unfortunately, my warrantee ran out last month, so the dealer wanted about $270 to fix/adjust the door. I fixed it myself today, with a striker shim and by adjusting the latch mechanism so the door was flush with the other body panels. Total cost (if you discount several years of dissatisfaction), $5 and about 45 minutes of my time. Like many things in life, I wish I had done it sooner! :-)
Any pictures? I have owned my 98 vert for a year and it has 20k on it and neither door sounds solid when I close it. I have had so many other cars that felt "solid" when the door was closed and these just sound cheap and loose. Kinda like an old Buick sedan. What did you do exactly with the shim? How did you figure out the right thickness?

More info would be helpful in case same happens to me.
