Bought my 04 from them in January. It wasn't the car that I bid on or purchased online. When I got there and drove the car I didn't like the way it drove. Something was strange in the suspension. I looked at their inventory and asked to see the 04 CE. They brought it up and told me the HVAC had no lights and they would fix. I drove it first and really liked it. They worked all day on the AC and had to have a part. They paid for a hotel overnight and breakfast the next morning. Gave me a 2011 Camaro and a 2011 Mercedes 500SL to drive while I was waiting. Car was ready next morning and a great drive home! Place that sells over 100 cars a month is bound to get complaints, but I will definitely use them again!
I bought my car from them via the auction site in January of 2010. I was a little nervous about buying this way, but I figured I would take the chance since it was exactly the car I had been searching for. The carfax was listed in the ad and was a Texas car with one previous owner. I live in the Austin area and made the trip over to Stafford to pick the car up. The place was very busy the day I picked the car up. They brought the car up and allowed me to test drive it. I took the car out and checked out everything I knew to check to include a diagnostic check. There were no codes present. The only thing I found wrong with the car was the passenger side vanity mirror on the sun visor was broken. I mentioned it to the salesman and he immediately took the car back to "make ready" and had it replaced with a brand new one. No questions asked. This was one of the best car buying experiences I've ever had.
This place sells lots of cars and has an unbelieveable selection. While I was waiting I noticed a shuttle bus that runs from the dealership to the airport throughout the day. I met a couple from Canada who had flown in to pick up their C6 convertible.
I can't speak for the BBB and other forums regarding this dealership, but my experience was positive.
Well, I by no means have stock in the company, but I will always be the first to gripe about a dealership.. so i feel it is only fair that I sing their praises. Plus, I am a numbers guy. So here it goes. They have averaged a little over 2,000 units sold per month for the past 12 months.. so doing the math , that is a 99.6% approval.. or (for the pessimists) a .4% complaint ratio. My eBay feedback score is higher than that, but I do not do nearly that kind of volume . I did have an issue with having to re-sign some paperwork, but that was the lenders fault.
Where are you getting this number? [2000 units/month]. I've been in the used-car business since 2005 and the average inventory turn per month is about 40-50%.
They currently show 1,693 units for sale. Their monthly sales are probably around 600-800 per month, which still kicks azz!
Also, their eBay profile lists only 480 reviews in 12 months, which doesn't make sense given that is their driving sales medium.

The book written about their sales & marketing plan alludes to the above number, and I was told this by Allen Parsons one of the chief finance officers. I don't know if eBay can be considered their main source.. maybe largest source of advertising, but I purchased my car outside of eBay, I just saw the ad online (eBay) and contacted them directly to handle the transaction. Their number and contact information is easily gleaned from the eBay ads.. I just prefer talking to the sellers & dealing direct if possible. I would assume that most people buying a large item would have a similar approach. just my .02
I have had personal dealings with them and DONT GO THERE. They are the worst dealership I've ever dealt with, the cars are in poor shape, the customer service is terrible, and there are cheaper prices elsewhere. Honestly I would rather not buy a car at all than to buy one from Texas auto. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. I have too many stories to post about them, don't even get me started and I live in houston.
Friend just bought a Camaro SS from them. After putting his $1,000 non refundable deposit on the vehicle, it was lie after lie. Dealership said there were minor issues which needed to be fixed on the car. The car was promised to be ready on three different occasions but was not. He wasted three trips to the dealership only for them to say the car wasn't ready, regardless of them promising a date. Didn't bother to call either. After all this, the salesmen told him that they do $100,000 in sales a day and could care less about his $13,000 he just spent on the SS.
I have bought three vehicles from there including my '03 vette. A great experiance, and would buy there again. The vette I bought was an '03 with 38k on the od. It had a lazy eye and they stepped up and sent me a check to have them both replaced. Good experiance, over and above what I thought I was in for.
Bought my '03 Z06 from them two years ago. Enjoyed the experience, and everything worked out just fine.
Look, it's not a dealership in the classic sense. Used cars. You buy the car "as is." Used car dealerships in Texas have bad reputations for the most part. Given the volume at Texas Direct Auto, I would EXPECT more complaints.
One thing I did was to arrange for a mechanic nearby to inspect the car. TDA will let you drive the car before closing, and they're not in a hurry. Salesman said drive it for how ever long you need to. I had it looked over front to back.
There is no haggling on price. If there is something they can fix there, they'll do it. Otherwise, you're buying it as is. If there's a wart, you're buying the wart along with the car.
Also, I have real doubts about BBB anyway. They've grown old, bureaucratic, and give way to much preference to "members."
Get a Carfax, GM repair record from any dealership, identify a mechanic nearby, and you'll be good to go. Also, do be afraid of walking and losing the deposit. Just the price of doing business.

I bought my '01 w/58k miles from them last Oct. Forum member Coolarrow was nice enough to go check the car out for me before I made the trip down to purchase. TDA was an amazing dealership. I've never seen anything like the volume of cars, from exotics to DD;s, the size of the place is just crazy. Cars just parked everywhere. No pressure salesman- we walked the whole lot for 45 min just looking at all the vettes they had. Over 50 of them were on the lot the day we were there. Like others have said- drive any car on the lot for as long as you want, go get 'em checked out by a shop of your choice. They don't mind.
I had a great experience there and I couldn't be happier with my Vette. It was everything they advertised it to be and their staff didn't BS me about the car or the financing. I was out of the finance office in less than an hour.
Also, they will usually knock $500 off their price if you ask them to...
I filled out their online form and they offered me $8000 for my '99 FRC with 100k.
Yep, A rip off..
Texas Auto Online has similar practices to Texas Direct Auto. They are two separate businesses but it is easy to confuse the two.
I was looking at a CTS-V and offered my 03 350Z on trade. Had my own financing lined up but the salesmen told me I would have to have my car appraised before they would let me test drive the CTS-V. As my car is being appraised, another customer comes in and test drives the CTS-V, no questions asked
So then they come back and offer me $5,500 for my 350Z touring, which blue booked for $11,000 trade in. Then the salesmen told me it was a Nissan and they don't put low end cars on their lot. So as i'm sitting there, I pull up the dealerships website on the salesman's computer and find 6 other 350Zs for sale, the cheapest one being listed at $17k. At this point, I get sick of the bull but tell them I'd still like to test drive the car. This was after over an hour of waiting. After they agree to let me drive it, we walk out to the car and the salesman gets in to tell me that its too low on gas and their gas pumps were already turned off because it was after 5pm.
Horrible experience. Don't shop at Texas Auto Online or Texas Direct Auto!!!
Had a good experience. Guess Im one of the few. I got a killer price, several people have been amazed at the condition of my car. Also gave me a great deal for trade in, and generally took care of me while I was there. My only complaint would be I felt like they drug their feet a bit and it took too long, but I got in and out in 1 day with test drives, evaluating my car for trade, and finishing financing. They detailed it for me and I took it home that night. Took from around 12-7. Part of it was waiting on my dad to come take a look at my car (was a turbo 06 Mustang) and take what he wanted off it.
