Don't forget the Window Valet! I use it when shopping so I don't have to open the door for small packages.

If I unlock the car door with my key it activates the alarm. I then need to put my key in the ignition switch to shut the alarm off. It's done this for the 6 years that I have owned the car, anyone else have this happen on their C5?

That has happened to me once or twice, however my fob stopped working a while back and I have been using the key ever since with no problems ( really just laziness on my part)

I'm not trying to cheap out at all here...more like perhaps making a choice to not use a previously unnecessary gadget just a decade ago.

If the alarm goes off people are saying the key will not start the car? Is this the deal really, and we are therefor enslaved to the use of the FOB? Is that true?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys

Bob
I have an 03 and you do not need the fob to turn off the alarm. I don't use my fob's either. I have two but I just put the key in my pocket. No, I have not scratched the door. The only bad thing is that I can't open the door for my wife.

I, for one, have had enough with this key and fob business. When the heck are they going to get us those thumbprint (or voice recognition) systems they've been promising for years? Heck, James Bond had it 20 years ago so it's got to make its way to the consumer market soon!

All seriousness aside, even my dear old mother's Prius unlocks and powers up without ever pulling the key/fob thingy out of your pocket. It is way cool. I wonder if they could make it small enough to implant it - just walk up to your car, climb in, push the start button, and go. If you're gonna dream . . . dream big!

When I first got mine I went a few months with no fob, but I am glad i boght one. I have a 99 and have the fob that auto locks/unlocks the doors, and I love it. It can be annoying when working, so just move the slider switch and turn the feature off. Fobs are kind of crappy though. I bought mine new from a dealer, and after 2.5 years the trunk button no longer works.....

You don't need a fob to turn off the alarm. If the alarm goes off the key will still open the door and then you just have to climb inside and turn the key to the on position and the alarm will go off. This has happened to me many times in the past year I've been with out an alarm.

I wish there was some way to use the c6 fob with the c5. It is much nicer adn smaller, and you never need to take it out of your pocket.
