Default C5+5k > C6???

Ok all I have been at this car thing for a little while by no means would I call myself an expert, but from my experience I have noticed that the newer cars seem to be faster than the older cars on the street usually. So with that said I am debating between a c6 & a c5. I have driven a c5 z (cammed) and a C6 (rental) and the C6 seemed light years faster, mind you it was the ls3. So is it feasible to think that I could mod stock C5 (Heads, Cam full exhaust) for 5K, and then just be able to run with a c6, or blast past one?

Debating between the 2

Do the math...

C6Z 505hp - 15% (6sp) = 429rwhp
C6 std LS3 436hp - 15% (6sp) = 370rwhp

C5 LS1 345hp + bolt ons & cam = 420rwhp

It's all a numbers game and how much you want to spend.

A C5 Z especially cammed should be faster than a stock auto LS3.

The real question is which style do you like the best. Sure you can get a C5 Z and throw some money in it and get more performance. Going with a C6 you will have a newer car and most likely fewer miles. As you have already said the C6 LS3 seems faster than the cammed Z06 C5. So it really is up to you. I have always said buy the newest car with the lowest miles.
Also if you don't plan on racing it on the track, what difference does it make if you have 405 hp or 430 hp not taking in the true RWHP? But I will admit, the lope of a nice cam sure sounds nice.

If you are doing H&C on the non z C5 then I would also add the clutch cost into the calculation. You will need one eventually....maybe immediatly.

Later on if you want to sell that 5k you spend on mods is out the window. I'd get the newer car hands down.

But there is no WAY you can get an LS3 for +5k over a C5.

When I had a C4 I sure got tired of C4 people wanting to whip a C5.

Now this?

Does it ever end?

The C5 Z, especially cammed should be able to keep up with the Std C6. If it doesn't keep up cammed, something is wrong with it.

I was thinking the same thing on my post, but I thought the OP was only using the $5K as a base price for mods on the C5.

h/c/i z is probably putting close to 450rwhp if not more. There is no way a stock ls3 can come close to those numbers. a h/c/i z will walk all over a stock ls3

If all your looking for is speed then might as well go for the c5z, but if you can afford it then go for the c6. At the end of the day your starting off with a better base to mod and HP can only go up from there...

Weird, how did a stock ls3 feel faster than a cammed z?

ls3 stock 430hp
ls6 stock 405 hp
ls6 with vararam, LT headers and a tune will probably be around 440 (not to mention it's lighter as well).

But cammed?

If the C6 seemed faster, there must be something wrong with the C5 Z.

Cammed C5 Z > base C6. Did you finally get rid of the GTO?
