Pumped a few Gallons of vp100 before i hit the track.sounded and ran ****.. ?? Wats to much octane. Can u run straight 100. At. the time i had around 8 galls 50/40.. 04 zo6 intake. tune. if that matters?? Thanks
Octane is just resistance to detonation. If you are not having any knock on whatever octane you are running now you wont get any added benefit from running higher octane. I have also read that a higher octane fuel will cause a power drop if you car isnt tuned to run on it because it takes more compression (which I am guessing is done through a timing alteration) to get the mixture correct.

You just threw money out the window is all you did.
From: ALL governments are legalized mobsters, so doesn't matter where I live :(
A lot of guys who race bikes will actually run a mix of either 60/40 or 70/30 of 87 octane with 100+, and yes you can feel a difference...now that being said I haven't tried it in a car.

Just goes to prove that " for most people " Its all in your head. "Sounded and ran ****" ! indeed..... As others have said, your car will run worse on higher octane than lower octane, unless the engine needs it to allow complete compression. You wasted your money, and your insight on just how your car runs. The good News is that you learned something here. Be very careful about the Wow factor your boast about, especially to people who know something about automotive technology, to which there are many people here on this forum.

Some bike engines come with very high compression from the factory, 14:1. The original ecu programing is soft enough to allow that motor to run reliably on pump gas. Bike tuners will use an on board "piggy back tuner" that can utilize different stored programs (timing, rev limit, AF, etc) that can take advantage of different fuels or compensate for changing ambient air temp and density.
i ran 103 in my trans am at the track once. but that was only because i was so low on fuel, it started sputtering halfway down the 1320' lol. i wouldve put 93 in there but all they had was 87, 103, 110(leaded) c16 and something else. cant really say it made the car faster or slower, but the exhaust smelled better
