So I just got a 98 c5 it has an automatic In it. I was wondering is it worth putting money in the engine heads, cam, some sort of mild forced induction 10-12 psi on an automatic. For some reason I have it in my head that it is somewhat of a cliche to build a hot rod out of an auto? Is that wrong?

Go and stay with the auto trans. Just build on that with a Level v and a good stall from RPM give rodney a call... Robert
Nothing wrong with the A4 for normal street or strip use. If you plan on using the car for autocross or roadcourse racing, then you would want a manual gearbox.
If you want to add some hp to the drivetrain, I would suggest that you also think about go with a good rear gear package. The stock 2:73 are not what I would want.
Plenty of SC C5 A4's here on the forum, including mine. Do it - you will not be dissapointed (unless you look in your wallet )
I am now Level VII RPM a4 trans with c6 cradle and c6 z06 rear under it now. Also running 973 rwhp with no problems with the RPM a4 trans under the car... Robert

Do your mods and keep your A4 tranny. You can build it up to run very, very well - just be sure the rest of the drivetrain is capable of handling the extra power.

Everyone loves the idea of whipping through the gears in a targa with the top off or a top down convertible. But in reality, we spend 90 minutes in traffic jams everyday. I see the traffic on RT. 95 everyday come to a near halt in the afternoon. Today there are 12 cars for every man, woman & child in America. And after a year of wearing out your left legs joints in traffic that only creeps along, for those people I'm sure are at times they wish for A/C and a A4 transmission. Correct me if I'm wrong, But . . .
