Default Engine Pulled Out!

so let me share with you all how my day has went. started at about 9am working on the car. now there was not to much left to pull off before pulling the engine...WELL AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!!!

let me say that if you have never pulled or attempted to pull, or helped to pull the engine out of one of these NEWER model Vettes, it is a religious experience. trust me when i say that sometime during this process, YOU WILL FIND JESUS!!!!!

we had to pull off the ac crap from under the hood. then completely remove the brake system that sits in front of the engine. after that there was the rack-in pinion steering that had to come out. after all of this, then it was time to separate the engine from the bell housing. this in itself is also a pain in the FAWKING ***. getting it to separate is easy. but getting the damn engine itself to separate from the torque tube is something entirely different. after what seemed like forever of going up & down with the hoist, & using pry bars, it was extremely close to coming out but was still binding up. so what did i do you ask. well its simple my feeble minded friends. i shook that bastard like you would a damn stray cat. (i was gonna use the term baby here but didnt wanna OFFEND some tree hugger that might cruise thru here). finally after like 5 minutes of shaking the engine, it popped free of the torque tube & we lifted it out.

i thought i was gonna have a longblock this weekend but the guy backed out because the motor he was buying, the guy backed out on him. so i have a good line on a head, just have to call monday. found a Comp Cam 224/224 581/581 w/112 lope. ordering new Mahle Flat Top forged pistons from Texas Speed, & new Comp Cam valve springs from Summit.

then to assemble it all up & play the game again, only in reverse this time.

Man, that's a lot of work! I've never pulled my engine out from the top - I've always put the car up in the air and dropped the front cradle. I'm not sure how much easier it is than what you did, but you might consider going back in that way. If you had that much trouble getting it out I guarantee that you will have that much x10 going back in. Good luck!

oh i believe you Bill. but i dont have a lift in my garage. i wish i did though. we did how ever think about lowering the cradle to help put it back in. drop it down some, slide the engine in place while still hooked to the hoist. then raise the cradle back up & bolt it into place.

right now i'm just waiting to get the parts all here & i am also looking for a C6 clutch & flywheel. better to do it now while its all out then put it all back together & then have problems with it.

so i might be down for another month waiting to get everything i need. i hate to see it stripped down like that but better to do it the right way the first time then half *** it & have to tear it back apart.
