Default Road Trip

Planning a road trip from Dallas to Chicago in the Z, with a stop (for sure) at the Vette factory and museum. You guys have some favorite stops, suggestions, must see things along the way?

The reason I ask is I've never been to that part of the country. I've travel outside the U.S. about 99% of the time, and I just haven't savored the good old USA.

Kinda like I visited my sister in Birmingham, AL. Went by the Barber race track and that wonderful museum. Huge motorcycle collection. Never new it existed.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You could stop by Effingham IL and visit Mid-America Motorworks - nice museum and a major supplier of Corvette parts.

If you go through Memphis, good place for BBQ.

Ditto w/Vetteman Jack suggestions. Be aware crossing over the Mississippi into Illinois speed limit drops & LEO's are waiting. Enjoy the trip & be safe!

Good suggestions. Definitely need to try Memphis barbeque. Mid-America Motorworks is on the list.

I'll have to do some research for stuff for the wifey. Seeing the largest ball of twine will not cut it. WallyWorld is out for sure.

The Corvette Museum & assembly plant tour is a must if your going through Bowling Green. Did both a couple years ago. If your going to spend a day or two in that area you may consider the Bourbon Trail tour. It was enjoyable, bourbon is tasty
Many places to see in Chicago. Not sure what your likes are but a trip to Navy Pier is an option. Also any of the museums there or the aquarium near Lake Michigan. Been 30+ years since I've done the museum thing, sure they've changed in that time. Sears Tower or whatever it's called now, the observation floor has amazing views of the city. Enjoy your trip.

Yes, at least an overnight in Bowling Green for sure.

Chicago I know. Also have a neice and uncle-in-law in the area. Will probably spring for a dinner at Trotters.

The Z is a great touring machine. Even the wife loves riding in it. Should be fun. We're also big on making decisions on the fly when traveling. So, no telling what we'll see along the way.

BG is just an hour north of Nashville - lots of things to see there..... Monticello (Thomas Jefferson) museum, Opryland Hotel (a destination in itself - unbelievable) ... Music Row etc

We toured the factory and the museum about 2 years ago, be sure to watch them test the vettes at the end of the tour, especially the water leak test.

While you are in Memphis you might as well visit Graceland and see
