Our dog has rode in cars & trucks since he was a tiny puppy. Never gave us a problem. He has rode thousands of miles in our Yukon. He has been in the Vette only twice.
Tonight I was at work and got a call from my wife. She said she drove the Vette to get groceries and when unloading them she left the door open. The dog got in and refused to get out. I heard a growl and then some choice words from her. She said she tried to pull him out by the collar and he offered to bite her. She ask what to do. I said either take him for a ride or see if you can get his leash on him and drag him out. She said she had already tried to lure him out with a "treat". She got the leash and he when he saw it he decided he wanted to go for a walk so he jumped out on his own.
HAHAHA!!! That's awesome. I can't get my dog to like being in cars at all. She doesn't even like going outside. It's a chore to get her out of the house, in the car, and to the dog park.
But your dog is on the right track. I've had to leash friends to get them out of my car.
Nothing wrong with him wanting to go for a ride, but I'd be concerned that he offered to bite her.
We are a bit worried about that too. Its not like him at all as he has always been a really sweet dog and not very brave for the most part. We have never even hit him with a newspaper. If he does it again we will have to show him who is the boss.
My dog will jump in any open car door and want a ride.
mine also. when we travel with her, she will ride part of the time (on and off) with her front paws on the center console staring out the front windshield (i guess she is making certain i am doing an ok job of driving), lol. while she lies down in the back, she will never sleep. she loves to look out the side windows (when she isn't evaluating my driving) even on our 10 hour trips between our 2 homes.
Our dachshund loves going for rides, especially in the Vette because it is the only car he can jump into without assistance!
Just so you know, the only thing that will ever come out of you hitting your dog is that he will be afraid of you. You can be assertive and dominant without being abusive.

How is the best way to make sure he knows its not ok to bite someone? He has never been hit with a hand newspaper or anything else and obeys commands most of the time but we can't have him biting anyone no matter how much he wants a ride.
Our dogs love both the Nissan and the Corvette. Bad thing is the golden/st. barnard poked a hole in the passenger seat one day. Now the seat has gotten real bad. He is gone now but the new golden and german shephard love to ride in both cars too. Get home and they jump in and lay on us to say hi.
