Just picked up an 02 Z06 a few days ago. Overall, I really like the car. However, a few times when I try to start the car, I would just get a click. The lights would dim and the AC fan would turn off. The car eventually starts after toying with it for a little bit. Now I'm not new to GM cars, and on my old suburban, it would click when the battery terminals weren't tight enough. So I went and reconnected the battery but to no avail. So I'm guessing the starter solenoid is going downhill? Going to try to reset the codes then drive around and see if any pop up.
Also, I noticed the right pair of exhaust tips hangs lower than the left. Haven't gone under the car yet, but I assume this is a simple fix? Borla stingers.
you will need 2 floor jacks....
one to lift the rear ( unless you have ramps and can back onto the ramps to get the butt up in the air)
Lift the car
To get them to hang even place the second floor jack and a 2x4 long enough to span the exhaust tips under the tips. center the jack under the 2x4 and tips
crawl under the car and loosen the bolts on the exhaust so that the pipes will rotate.
pump up the jack so that the top of the tips push against the bottom of the rear fascia.
tighten the exhaust bolts
drop the jack. The weight of the tips on the cantilevered exhaust will now cause them to drop away from the fascia. They should now be even height ...
If not repeat the above , adjusting the position of the jack to the left or right depending on which tip you need to raise a bit more.
Going to switch the battery with the one in my camaro and see if it makes a difference. The battery looks good, it has an 09 build sticker on it, AC Delco. I took a pole and gave the starter a few taps from the passenger engine bay and it didn't help much. It eventually starts, just takes a bit of fiddling.
The starter does not look easy to replace. The car had LT and it looks like I'd have to remove the passenger side in order to get the starter out... is this an easier task on the C5 than on the F-bodies?
Got some damage to the passenger side borla system. The car was hit in the right rear I believe, at least that's what the PO said that the PPO told him. It looks like on the passenger over axle pipe, the axle had hit the pipe, putting a dent and a hole in it. Plus the Borla round muffler has a dent on it. I'd like to replace it with the stock Ti anyways.
Could be as simple as the battery terminals are not tight enough - that's all it takes for some really weird things to happen or not happen in these cars.
Swapped batteries, didn't help. Connection on the starter didn't look too good, but the Kooks LT are in the way so I can't really do much about them... am I forced to remove the passenger header for this?
Well in the process of replacing the starter. Spent a while trying to get the kooks out of the car.... I failed. Header is all loose but I cannot figure out how to get it out of the engine bay... valve cover off already. Decided to just disconnect the starter with the header hanging. Sort of a pain in the *** with the tight clearance, but it's the lesser of two evils.
Sent someone out to get me a replacement, hopefully installation is faster.
I filled up the tank today and noticed the gauge didn't go all the way to F. Also, it went straight to empty after about 50 miles of driving. So I'm off to get some Techron and hope it fixes it.
Also got another code... LDCM b2262 - driver seat horizontal sensor or something? Any ideas where this came from?

Just clear that code, it happens when the battery is disconnected a lot.
Yep, starting issue was fixed with the new starter. The old one was beat up, the posts were loose and a little corroded, and there was a weird rattling, like something inside was loose.
Bottle of Techron fixed the gas gauge, shows just about half tank with ~170mi on the odometer. Mostly highway miles... how many miles do you guys usually get in a tank? It was showing ~24MPG @ 75MPH on the highway. I think the car could use a tune, don't think the PO got one done since installing long tubes or SLP Blackwing. Didn't buy the car for mileage though, so whatever.
I also have a weird rattle or exhaust leak, I thinks its on the flange where the LT connects to the X-pipe. Got the bolts as tight as I can, but there isn't a gasket or anything. Is this normal?
Just need to fix the sliding seat, find a stock Ti system, get an Aux-in adapter that works, and clean up this scuff mark on the gauge cluster, then it'll be all good to go.
Sounds like you're doing well. Try to use Chevron or Texaco with Techron unless you just want to add it yourself with the fill up.
Search will fine the fix for the seat, I presume this is the rocking seat issue?
If you don't have it yet, I'd invest in a set of factory service manuals from Helm inc or one of our GM forum vendors like Gene Culley for best price. The FSM's are worth their weight in gold sometimes!
