It comes down to these cars being a pain to go aftermarket. Din and half is an oddball size so if you go single din or double you have to modify. Then you get to the Bose speakers and you either gotta buy adapters or replace them.
Best bang for you buck is the $6 ipod/MP3 player mod for a stock H/U. Takes about an hour to do but it's pretty simple.
single din is easy, just needs a rotm adapter plate. It's a pretty easy car to go aftermarket in, really.
honestly for those stuck on oem look you can keep oem radio and add aftermarket amp and speakers and or sub and greatly improve the sound quality and still keep it looking stock. i did a system in a C5Z that unless you knew where to look it was 100% stock looking and sounded absolutely kick ***
those that say the stock is great etc dont know what they are missing until they hear even a cheap setup
I replaced CD changer with an ISimple IPOD adaptor, replaced rear Bose speakers with 5 1/4" Infinity Reference speakers and wired in an antenna shut-off switch. Still have OEM Bose headunit.

I've done the double din conversion in 2 C5's and my SRT10. To say doing the 10 was alot easier is an understatement. Single din may in fact be simpler but I've never done one.
Besides your opinion on what's easy means nothing to me. You are very familiar with all this stuff, I remember reading alot of your posts over in the audio section when doing my first one. Thanks again for the help!
I kept the factory speakers and just installed the DD head unit.
Same thing here. My Pioneer DD makes these Bose speakers actually sound awsome, and I was looking to replace the speakers before this stereo was put in. It's not the Bose speakers, it's that crappy head unit with no power to drive it!
i have a modded double din from dennis ...over at double d mods..and to date the the best mod on my car...for me i hated the stock cd player...its boring..and dull...double din is the only way to go..imo
