Default C5 Ownership Update

Well I've had the car for nearly a month. So far it has been great. The car really doesn't need too much. I've done my 1st oil change, plugs/wires and air filter. The sun visors were replaced this week. I treated the convertible top. The HVAC display was repaired.

A new console lid cover is on the way.

I do have a few questions:

1. Was there ever a battery compartment cover from the factory. If not, it really should have come with one.

2. How does "Ride Control" (continously variable real time dampening) work? Is it done at each shock?

3. I can not get rid of the front suspension squeak. I had it on the lift yesterday and removed the front sway bar bushings, cleaned them and reinstalled them with silicone grease. It still squeaks! The Sway bar end links appear to be good. What else could be the culprit? It's worse in "touring" mode and squeaks more at low speed. Any suggestions?

4. I've heard of the problems with the "active handling". I drove it back from Houston and was caught in rain for a couple hours near Wichita. At the time I hadn't realized the system turns on automaically when the vehicle is started. It handled fine in the rain so I assume everthing is working as it should. Since then, I've turned it off several times, but noticed that when the system is off, nothing else in the DIC works until I turn the system back on. Is this normal?

I will repair the drivers seat track this winter. I'd like to replace the missing cargo net and OEM locking wheel lug nuts.

For question #$4 - Hit the reset button and normal DIC functions return.

You can find them at many of the big vendors (Mid-America, Ecklers, Etc.). They normally come in black, but you can get them painted body color and they look good.

Yes, each shock is controlled by the computer system on the car to adjust automatically as road conditions dictate. Each of the settings changes the firmness of the shocks.

This link might help: Even though it's for a Z06, most things will apply to all. (scroll about half way down and you'll see the 2002 Z06 Owners Video

No factory battery cover.

Congratulations on getting a CE. There great cars and you will love it. If you cant find a battery cover from any of the vendors pm me and I will trace mine out for you so you can make your own. I made mine out of Plexiglas from Home Depot. You need to leave that traction control on. The squeak is more than likely not in the front sway bar, try removing and cleaning, re-greasing the rear.

It will only get better. I have had my 02 for 7 years come November. Not a single issue. It is on a tender that gets unplugged when I leave the garage and plugged back in when I return.

Add StaBil the last run of the year. That's all it takes.
