OK, I just called the place I mentioned. Lady said they repair a lot of these but she wasn't sure what years. Asked me if there were numbers or manufacturer label and I told her I didn't buy the car yet but wanted to know if they could fix if needed. She ended up saying if it was made by Delco or Delphi that they fix them. If it's made by Bosch they don't. Anyone know who makes the early ones? Anybody have one out that would want to check to see if these people can fix?
BTW, she quoted $225 to repair....if they can.
Dinos corvette salvage says they fix 97-00 for 800.00 corvette specialties in ca can fix them also for 895.00 has anyone tried them?
Also, why cant you just rewire it to accept an 01 and newer ebcm? Is it THAT different?
Controler for the antilock brake system.
I was wondering the same thing. It bolts to the pump unit so that may have to be changed too.
Modulemasters lists the 01 up as a Delphi unit. When you look up a 2000 they say type unknown. I suspect the early one is the Bosch. Anyone have one to take a photo of?
I was thinking, how many people with high mileage cars have never had this problem, are is it like the colum lock problem.Sooner or later you will have this. Thanks
I was looking into replacing my set up with one from a 2001. About a grand to get everything and move the unit to the front. At least that year unit and up is repairable.
However I have now decided just to delete the entire thing and go ebcm-less.

Different everything -the early unit were even in a different location (rear vs front of the car)-hacking one in isn't in the cards. I'm SURE the outfits that repair them have seen it all-if there was a way to retrofit and old car with a later EBCM they would have done it by now.
Get used to it, trying to keep a car running for 30+ years or more is going to be impossible with new cars-like finding vacuum tubes for old stereos.
"I fixed the EBCM issue"
"What did you do?" "Bought a donor car!"
Fixed it for you
No doubt I will be laughing eveyday that I get to contuinue to drive my 98 convertible with no ABS issues and get the FAST and LS2 TB working as well on the 383 stroker. Not to mention continuing not to have an car payments either.

My view for, what it's worth, is that this is one of the disadvantages of having an affordable sports car. To do that, the engineers had to accept "parts bin" components. The EBCM has some cheap and nasty relays in there and looking at the pictures on the Forum, some dubious soldering.
The EBCM isn't the best piece of kit in the car, even after the upgrades on my 02. Mine was replaced under warranty 5 years ago after a classic C1214. I now have a SWPS which needs replacing. It's in the garage when I get round to it. Trouble is, it's a complex system which has quite a few associated systems which can also cause failures. Cheap relays seem to be the common theme.
The good news is, you can run the car with no EBCM, you just lose the (quite important) protection it gives you.
DEE GEE
Are you sure you can drive w/o the ECBM? Mine is a 1999 and am having issues now. I was also told I wont have ABS, TC & AH but who cares. Cars 15 years never had them either.
Also what codes would show up if you take it out. My biggest hope is that if you take it out the brakes will no longer grab my front or real wheels either. I live in Texas so I wonder if it would pass inspection in my state. Your help is surely appreciated
I am 45 and have had many cars without any kind of "assist" at all so driving without the EBCM sounds like no big deal except You have also lost Dynamic Rear Proportioning and Rear Stability Control if your car is a 2001 or newer, though you won't see warning messages for those systems, along with the fact you have lost ABS, Traction Control, and Active Handling.
...the C1214 causes the loss of all the systems that require control of brake line pressure.
