I would be interested in seeing this, I too have thought about a shift plate made out of stainless steel. The one that I saw was above the shift surface, I want it below like in the photo of the Ferrari. Can't wait to see the pic. Thanks

I doubt that this is possible with the stock console. The mechanism for the shifter protrudes a little above the console so therefore any shift gate would have to be raised with some sort of spacer to clear it.
Depending how far you want to go with this, modifying the console may be the solution.
i wouldnt imagine it would be to bad. and i definitely drive it like the nice folks in Kentucky built it to be driven.
I spent many miles driving my cousin's old Ferrari 328GTSi, and made 3 laps around Road America in a 1971 Pantera. Shifting quickly was impossible, except for the straight shifts. Moving laterally is the issue due to the plate.
+ 1 on the pantera. Spent some time with a friends 73. Not possible to shift fast. Can actually end up banging the hell out of the gate trying to get in gear.
This design has been around for several years. The only thing which has stopped me from trying it out is that void - the open area - around the shifter. In other installations there is a mesh or closer spacer so you don't drop stuff or see down below. I like the idea, but the exicution just doesn't match up.
I used to think it would be nice to have one but once I started driving stick I realized I couldnt drive the car like I wanted to... nothing like hitting a shift in 350 milliseconds...

well then i will shut up lol cant argue with that.
I think Breathless Performance already makes something like this. It also comes in carbon fiber. I have a Vetteesentials custom boot which I prefer because it doesn't impede your shifting movement, though I will agree that the aluminum gate looks nice.
There is a guy in california that makes them. Rick Nyugen is his name. I have one and will post pics this weekend.
Ray made one for me for my auto but I have so much
on my plate that I have'nt the time to install. Got a
custom shift ball as well.
One thing I noticed the light in the console shift area
can not be used. Oh well I never look anyway--
