Default Driving without EBCM.

I took off my EBCM today so I can send it off. I drove the car around a while without it. Right away I noticed that the steering is a lot harder to turn at speeds under 20mph. Is this normal? At highway speeds it feels fine.

I did not feel a difference in mine when I took it off to send it off for repair.

I was not aware the EBCM had anything to do with steering???

Yea, I know this sounds crazy but there is definetly a big difference in the effort it takes to turn the wheel. From a stop to a slow creep its almost like the power steering isnt even working.

No change when I did or sent mine off for repair.

Make sure you didn't hit the sensor on the rack when you removed the ABS Module

Thanks,Matt

I experienced the exact same phenomenon. Went away after I reinstalled the repaired EBCM, no harm done.

I can't explain it either.

My guess is the control for Magnasteer must be included in the EBCM. The Magnasteer system probably uses nearly the same vehicle data signals as the ABS system (wheel speeds, steering wheel angle, yaw, etc) in order to calculate the amount of steering assist.

Steering rack has magnet in it at top of rack where steering shaft bolts to it to assist with low speed steering, I believe is part of EBCM. I cant remember if all had them or not, depended on options.
