I had mentioned in a few posts that I wanted to buy a 99 Vert from a salvage auction I deal with. Well finally bought it today. Paid a good bit more than I wanted to. Evidently someone else wanted it pretty bad too.....but 50 bucks less than I did.
So it has 71K , 6spd, navy blue with black int/top & loaded. Hopefully it looks as good in person an no unpleasant surprises.
Headed out tommorow at 6am to retrive it from Baltimore. I don't think I'll mention being from Pittsburgh.
Thanks for everyone answering my questions and putting up with my 2cents here & there. I'll be hanging around and probably have more questions as the rebuild progesses. Great place here and glad I found it.
After you get your new to you C5 stay around Baltimore and try to get some tickets to the game Sunday. Always some for sale on ebay. Should be a good one. Baltimore fans are good with out of town fans. Not like New York or Boston where they may rough you up.
Thanks everyone. Just waiting on the coffee pot and heading out a little earlier.
The game would be great but we are leaving tommorow for the Vintage races at Watkins Glen. I have some serious driving to do for a couple days.
I promise some pictures when we get back from The Glen and I get it unloaded. I'll be keeping a log for future reference in case I ever have to sell. But if it turns out to be a bust, I may just run and hide.
Well it's home and the Baltimore Beltway SUCKS!!! I pitty anyone that has to deal with that every day.
Hooked my booster pack to it and it fired up. One key doesn't work and the one that does has a piece of tape to mark it. But the one that won't start it opens the console lid and not the other??
Anyway, it does have some frame damage, as I expected, but looks like just forward of the suspension crossmember. I have a frame machine just have to work up a way to anchor. Fella I talked to that builds a lot of these said he made up adapters that tie into the jack points.
So the good news. Looks like a near new Corsa exhaust from the cat back with an X pipe that says Corsa X or something. Is that good? No messages on the dash except washer fluid cause I think the reservoir may be cracked. Everything seems to work. HUD works, both power seats & lumbar, windows, stereo..even the AC. No damage at all to the radiator, air condenser or cooling fans.
Well I know this probably all sounds nutty to a lot of Vette people but I never did do things the easy way. If I save much money..who knows at this point. But it's the exact car I wanted and loaded with options. After sitting in it and listening to the exhaust when you stab it and then cranking up the Bose stereo...I'm rambling here but this is the coolest car I have ever owned and I've had a few. Can't wait to get R done.
Edit. I just remembered something. I got off 70 to get gas in the truck before hitting the turnpike. Older cashier guy sees the car on the trailer and says "Nice Vette" I said yeah but this is the good side. He says " I know but that's a nice color. Has to say something about a car that still gets complements even when it's totalled!
