1. What is the body of C5 & C6 made of ? I thought it was Fiberglas, but some pic's of wreaked Vettes seem to show them as hard plastic ?
2. What is "Double Din" ?
3. what is the advantage of lowering a Corvette ?
4. what is the advantage of an 'X' pipe ?
I have some more, but can't remember them right now. I'll write them down so I won't be so stupid/ignorant in the future. Thank you !
I will try to answer some of these for you.
Mr.Bill
1. The C5 is not fiberglass, I can't remember the name of the stuff, It is some kind of composite, Plastic with a pinch of glass. SMC = sheet molded compound.
2. Double Din is refering to a size of the face of a radio, The C5 factory is a 1.5 Din and most new after market NAV systems are Double Din, So to install a DD in a C5 your bezel will need to be altered.
3. Looks, Lower center point of gravity.
4. Sound mostly, Don't think there is really any HP gain from one.

The C5 is SMC ( sheet molded Composite ) it comes in flat sheets, and it then heat pressed into shape. It is an advantage in the manufacturing process.

4. Sound mostly, Don't thing there is really any HP gain from one. there is a slight gain because the balanced scavenging help to quickly remove exhaust pulses , it also helps smooth out the engine.
Just an addendum to Mr B.'s post

Gentlemen, I try to stay up on the different aspects of the worlds Best Sports Car ever Made, but I have to admit with so many combination of options, years go by with even more and all the aftermarket devices, I shamefully fall short of that goal. May you all have a truly great weekend. Thank You !
1. See the Sticky at the top of the page (Weights, Measurements, etc.)
2. There is a ton of info on the Forum and the Search function allows members to access that information. Give it a whirl.
Just a small point to clarify the X-pipe answers. It is mainly for all the after market exhaust. The factory H-pipe is primarily a structural item. While the cross pipe of the H is the same 2 1.2" pipe as the rest of the system,,the main pipes have only a dime sized hole in them making it virtually useless for balancing any exhaust pressure/pulses. This leads to the infamous"motorboat or putt-putt idle sound when freer flowing/louder after market systems are installed,it's still there even with straight pipes. The quiet stock system masks this sound. The X-pipe smooths this out tremendously,,and as E.T. stated, adds a small bit of power,,and from what I've read has a little more affect on torque. Thought this might help.
