I have to ask, what happen to the last engine? Price for an LS1 varies, is it rebuilt, or used with known or unknown history & mileage? How long did they say it will take to install engine?
Turned over engine and it's idling fine - fuel pressure is excellent, but it knocks! Picked up vehicle and was told had to replace push rod - haven't taken to a mechanic yet - bought it for $9,000 and all the cash we had. No time given on install - other mechanic at corvette care in Sacramento, CA said it takes 22 hours labor. told mileage was 80k but it is 90k.

I'd be looking for a garage to rebuild the currant engine, then you'd know what you have. Did you know there was a problem with it when you bought it?If the car is in good shape other wise, it's worth rebuilding the engine.
I purchased a LS1 with 55k on it 2 months ago for $1400 and paid 1000 to install on a 98 Trans Am. Are you sure you don't mean a broken rod? A bent pushrod can be replaced by anybody. BTW here is my old LS6 Trans Am with a spun rod

I'm a member of many forums because of the GSXR, the Vette and the Truck... This one is head and shoulders above the rest because of people like this...
My '99 is still on the original engine. No knocking at all. Are you saying its lower end knocking or tapping out the top? 90K is nothing for an LS1 as mine is at 324k right now and still good. Now nothing lasts forever of course and eventually the bottom end will need tending too in my case. Your's, possibly it was tracked, super-charged or similar by the previous owner. Either way, pull it out and apart and see what you've got.
