2001 model, 12k on the odometer. I'm hearing a slight rattelling noise at about 2000 rpm under light load, light accelleration. Sounds engine related, almost like piston or piston pin slap....cold or hot, seems to reduce when hot.
Any ideas what this could be? I'm not super concerned about it but I'd like to know if the forum has heard this or knows what it could be?
Probably piston slap. Mine does it for a few minutes until it warms up. Wouldn't hurt to have someone knowledgeable listen to it though in case it is a lifter or something.

My truck and my vette are kinda doing that. I think its bad gas and high temps. I noticed on the vette 1st and then my truck started pinging when I was on the gas. The **** gas these days is the reason. E85 my ***, probably more like 65. These older cars were built before the big ethanol push to save oil.
The vette will ping for a second or 2, then the knock sensor does its job. My old pickup will keep pinging if you don't lift the gas.
I notice it won't do it in the mornings when the air is colder.
Just a thought.
Try some Cheveron Techron fuel system cleaner, to clean the valves and fuel tank sensor. After you use that tank of fuel, fill up and use some octane boost and see if it still does it.
