I don't have them on mine. When i bought my wheels it already had tires with quite few miles left in it, so it would have cost around 250ish to take the TPMS out the stock wheels, then take the new wheels off the tires and then the TMPS in and the wheels back on.
I just hit reset to get rid of the Message in DIC, but other than that no issues here.
250ish ???? you do not have to remove the tires completly.. just break the bead on one side..push the side of the tire down and remove the sensor, put in the new one and add air... its a 40 to fifty dollar job. this can be done in less than 30 minutes for 4 tires.
I swapped my run flats and wagon wheels for my Z06's and non run flats I had on my WS6...I just hit the reset button when I start and sometimes I realize I don't even have to. When these tires wear out I may swap the sensors and run flats back with the Z06's.
Bottom line cool to have, but you can live without them. I didn't bother since the early sensors cost a ridiculous amount and the vendor I received my tire package didn't offer them. I wasn't going to pay for new sensors and unmounting/remounting of new wheels and deal with local crooked tire shop prices. Some places won't even touch them because you didn't purchase the tires from them.
My car is a 99 with aftermarket wheels. The TPS still work. I left work one day and had a low pressure warning. I was able to stop and get some air, made it home and plugged the tire. I have no idea if the po installed new sensors when he installed the wheels and tires or not. I have a new set of Hancooks in the garage to install when the seasons over. I'll replace the batteries in the TPS when I replace the tires. The last few cars I've owned has had this feature and I like it. I'm a cheap -ss but not cheap enough to do without them.
Did you know that you can replace the batteries in the sensors? There is a complete tutorial for this. Do a search on "Tire pressure monitor battery replacement".
If you have pulled yours out, please send them to me. I can make a fortune fixing them and selling them back for 1/2 price.
Smart decision! I could never understand why GM engineers chose not to equip Z06's with TPMS sensors.
In hindsight, it was a poor decision. When the Z06 came out they wanted to distinguish to the consumer that this was a serious contentender in the performance market... They wanted to make a very specific distinction between and standard C5 and the Z06, by putting non run flat performance tires on it and covering the road hazard aspect with a " Repair Kit"... As you know the C6 Z06 has run flats.

Also, you have to keep in mind that in 2000 and 2001 there was a much bigger gap in performance and weight between run flats and non run flats. Back then even run flat choices were much more limited.

That explains it. The Z06 "Repair Kit", with it's TPMS incompatible can of Fix-A-Flat, may have been the reason why no sensors were factory installed on Z06's. Thanks E-T.

well there was a little more to this aspect.. but the Super Tires were their own statement, but the prime directive in the C5 design was to Make it light, deliver it on time, and keep it within budget. The Super tires on the Z06 were in fact, lighter and screamed Super Car.. This, keep it light, keep it within budget, and deliver it on time, was the prime directives set by Dave Hill in 1995 when we first started on the C5 Platform, it only made sense to Keep it lighter, when the Z06 came out. Just some insider information... many things are designed in pre-launch and are debugged in the field after the initial launch. there is no time to get something to market and get every kink out before you release the product to market. This design and release concept has been around for 30 years in the auto market.
Hope this helps to make this a little clearer
