Hey guys,

I think it's time to clean the Blackwing filter. I had bought the cleaning (cleaner spray & Blue oil spray can) Kit a couple of yrs ago. I can't find it anymore.... I looked online and they've gone up quite a bit in price, so I wanted to know if there are other alternatives of cleaning/re-oiling, unless someone has one laying around they're not using and wanna sell me. Suggestions..?

Thanks!

P.S: and plz don't lecture me on why I can't spend $20-$25 or so on a new kit for a Corvette....yada yada yada... I know that... But asking questions, research, and alternatives is what makes this forum FUN

SLP or CORVETTES OF HOUSTON should have the cleaning kit. It's made by S&B FILTERS (CA)...

As far as cleaning, you can use diluted SIMPLE GREEN and a good stream of water from the inside out.

Personally, I would not use homemade oil concoctions. The "Blackwing" media is synthetic. Use the right product recommended by the manufacturer.

Buying direct from S&B FILTERS is the least expensive...

Seems that way... shipping is what kills; it's about the same...it's insane that companies make money on shipping too

Shipping is probably ground only so it won't be more than $10...start calling locally for a supplier of an "SLP/Blackwing #25017 Air Cleaner and Oil Kit"...

There are many options. First no need to be brand specific,,just go to any auto parts place and get one from another brand like K&N. OR you can do what I did,,followed the advice of another forum member(been a long time and can't remember the name or I'd give him credit),,and DIY. His formula/system is as follows. Spray and lightly soak with Simple Green,,and wash from inside out to remove dirt etc. Take a spray bottle and dilute mineral oil with alcohol, enough to make it work in the spray bottle. The alcohol evaporates and you now have a clean oiled filter ready to go.He's had many years of racing experience,,and has used this for many years. I've been doing it for a few years and on several vehicles(not just the vette) and it's working fine!! Mineral oil won't hurt any fibers,,and on a fabric works just like any oil catching particles. Hope this gives some alternatives!!
