Service Column Lock
Ive read up on many different threads based on the bypass for the column lock...some people have been telling me to make sure i get it to have a piece of mind.
I recently bought a 2001 z06 and this happend to me twice in the past three weeks. I try to start the car the guages all max out but the car doesnt start...sometimes there is clicking noise coming from the passengers side fuse box. I wait for about 10seconds then try again it starts normally BUT my clock now resets itself and also the guages change from KM To MPH.
The first time it happened it wouldnt turn on for several times...then i recieved a "LOW VOLTAGE" massage. I disconnected the battery charged it overnight then the next day it fired right up with no problems or any massages.
Are these sympthoms telling me to get a bypass for the steering column? I dont want to get stranded like some horror stories ive read!
any advice/help will be greatly appriciated!
thanks
Sarmen.
I would not even mess around, get a new batterry (I reccomend the ac delco professional series, but there are other choices, optima, sears die hard to name a couple. BUT make sure that the cold cranking amps cca is at least 700, (the delco is 800) and reserve capacity is at least 110

I guess its time to replace the battery since I charged it over night and within two weeks it back to its original state.
What throws me off a little is why it resets the clock/cluster when it does this..
Thanks again,
Sarmen.
I had a optima red cell check out fine . From what I have read the RC
Is the important #110 or better bought sears die hard
$254.00 no problems after that. Good luck
