Nice thread Alex
It's nice to know is side of members who are on here a lot such as Vetteman Jack,MSG C5 and Mr. Bill.
As for me Id have to say a 4.5. Reason being I can do all that if the time comes, but I can't say I can tune because I havnt been taught or shown, same goes for building an engine. Otherwise if I just watched and played with the software. I could do it.
I'd love to just hang with a tuner and an builder through a couple tunes, aka different scenarios like FI and NA. And with an engine as well. Otherwise I'll learn when I tear my block apart for fun. Lol
I can't express how much I hate not being able to tune my own car is. But being young I really need to try and concentrate on getting a "Career". A harsh case ADHD really hinders that. But I'm working on it. Lol
I want Lucky to rate himself, him and ET
Pretty much the same here, nothing I feel I cant do on the car.
Im trying to teach myself how to tune it but its a very sttep learning curve and I learn better if I can see it done.

Exactly.I just tried to take the pass. Head off....holy crap that thing is tight. Didn't have the 1/2" extension. Lol so much for cleaning up the chambers and top of the pistons
I didn't mean effect my learning ability, just concentrating and prioritizing. I have very bad impulsivity too lol. I know tuning is easy. But when I get my priorities straight and a career lined up, then I'm buying HP tuners and goin a it lol
If I could make a suggestion I recommend EFI Live. There is a great group of experienced tuners on the EFI Live Forum who are more than willing to help new tuners get their feet wet. I learned a lot by playing around with my car and posting all of my findings and questions.

But yes these are not set-in-stone definitions but just for general understanding and the threads intended purpose.

I strongly disagree. A "Tech" is a title given to "modders" (), customizers, mechanics, grease monkeys, etc... who happen to be employed at dealerships and independent repair shops.
I have seen many so-called "modders" that I would never want to touch my car. Anyone can be a hack artist and spray paint some engine parts and call it a "mod". Yet ask the "modder" to diagnose an electrical short and they may be clueless.
I have worked with several "techs" that have built custom bikes, and race cars from scratch. Many shops don't allow "techs" to be intuitive and make custom repairs. Vehicle manufacturers want "techs" to just replace parts, rather than fix. That doesn't mean the "techs" don't have the ability to do some pretty awesome custom work.

Yea Im sure you are going to need to get those heads off pretty soon so you can get some afr's or something similar so you can put those itb's to some real use.
i can do pretty much everything besides tuning and laying a base/clear coat. I never justified the cost of spending $600 on tuning software when I can have a professional tune it for half the price. Most of my limitations are due to the lack of equipment.
I wouldn't say 5 since this is the first Vette I have owned. Autobody is my livelyhood and bussiness. I've built more totals than I can remember plus restorations. I also do all my own mechanical work unless I'm too busy and need something done on a DD. I bought a new Harley in 2000 and did lots of mods on it. When I was younger I had a string of 2nd gen Camaros. Right now I have a 72 MGB and 80 TR8 that were both restored/modded from the bare tubs up. Even at 59 yo I still enjoy a challenge and learning new things. I could never afford to pay someone to work on my toys. This Corvette will be the same. What I don't know, I will have to learn.
