'97-'00 owners step on in...

Some years ago I bought a high mileage C-5 and it ran good. It had some issues and a few things that should not have broken compared to the high mileage foreign cars I've driven most of my life, but none of my foreign cars were so fast or looked so good. (maybe that Datsun w/Chevy 350 was) Overall it was good and I'll get another one ASAP.............

sorry, haven't been back to this thread...when I did the search I recall there were many trucks and cars using the same part number. Pontiacs, Yukons, etc. There are a lot of LS1 Firebirds out there I am sure, so most of these computers are available, and there probably are 10 times as many out there than the number of C5s built with them.

Myth Buster
The real reason they get dumped on the market is that the owners have finally got them paid for. Now they have to trade them in on a new one because not making a car payment just doesnt seem right

It gets a bit complex since , as I understand it, there are a couple different ones within the 97-00 range with or without active handling.
Need a GM parts guy with some time on his hands....maybe. I used to be one way back when you still read books. Now it's all computers and VIN#. I call for a part these days and if you don't have a VIN they can't tell you squat.

I found a EBCM for my 2k for $400 early this year. They are out there. If you work on your own car, I would stay away from the 98 with their perimeter bolt valve covers. They are a PITA with the EGR stuff.

My '97 with 86,500 miles is doing fine and lovin' it and keep the regular maintenance up and it will do you fine. Whatever you do with these cars, don't take shortcuts and over mod the car.

Which is exactly why I have decided not rule out any year models from consideration (except for the maybe the '97 model as it's common for the first year model to have more bugs than later models). The differences between the older vs the newer aren't enough for me to rule out one or the other...

I have a 2000 and have had my share of the "usual" problems, EBCM, bad seats, oil pressure sending unit, rear deck paint. I have over 175000 miles on it as it's my daily driver. I couldn't be happier with it. Love the body style way more than the C4or C6. Might get a C7 one day but this ones a keeper. I have it modded just the way I want it. When the engine goes it just means" stroke and bored"

I love my 98' would buy again No Questions Asked! Of course basic maintenance of the bad boy. But so reliable. Best performance, very affordable. I have over 124k miles and it's like brand new. I love mines. Daily Driven
