Default Contest or Coincidence?

I‘ve seen threads such as, “This ricer with a 5 inch tailpipe had to prove he could beat a ‘Vette,” or “People are always trying to show they are faster than me.” Other C5 owners think the car next to them treat the stoplight as a drag strip tree.

A member recently speculated whether a vehicle adjacent to him was trying to beat him to the next light. This is what I said:

Don't discount the possibility of a coincidence. He might have just gotten a new exhaust, and/or always jumps on it when he's first at a light. Just because a car's next to a 'Vette at a light doesn't necessarily mean they are racing if they step on it when the light turns green.

Case in point. There's a back road I take going home. Occasionally there's a car ahead of me who thinks the speed limit is a dare. When that car turns into a development, I usually hammer it to get to a more reasonable speed in a hurry.

Well one day there's a bike between me and this dare-angel. The slow car turns off, the bike hammers it, and so do I, like I always do. A few seconds later, I'm right in this bike's mirror. I turn into my own development a few seconds later, but I can imagine this biker on his biker forum telling everyone how a 'Vette tried to race him.

"I'm just driving like I always do, guy."
.
The point is, unless the guy is revving his engine and staring you down, or unless he says, “Say, I like the color of your car there, man. What's that s'posed to be? Sort of a cross between **** yella' and puke green ain't it?” he may not even be thinking of taking it on with you.

Are we making assumptions about the car in the lane next to us?

It can be pretty obvious when your on the freeway minding your own business and a neon srt-4 comes up next to you and makes his BOV go off 10 times while staring at you ... thats a pretty good indication he wants to race lol. Happened to me 2 days after I bought the car.

That is the same reason babies cry, trying to get your attention or reaction, we try not to go down to their level, we really do... well some of us really do.. I end up just driving slower, I like hearing that high reving sewing machine sound just before I let out the clutch and let the rumble of the C5's V8 roar to a slow but firm take off, in full control of the rear end and obeying all traffic lights as well...

Once in Napa, I had enought, I slowly pulled my wallet and let my badge rise up the driver side window so the Ahole could see that he was challenging a person that he may want to think twice about... the look on the face was well, priceless..... I think he may have soiled his bikin cotton thon... Enjoy the Ride...

Modded vettes don't seem to get picked on by people as much for some odd reason... Can't explain why. Nope, no idea...

Gentlemen, if that's how you have been perceiving my posts lately, then I'm sorry. I thought I was contributing by allowing myself and others who feel as I do have a sounding board on this forum. I guess I'll be leaving for now.

Okay, let me add some consideration and understanding to this harmless post. Some element of comradery must exist amongst us Corvette owners to the extent that we can accept a fellow Corvette owners posting of an offbeat subject with some measure of patience. Such non-subjects can and do occur here with some frequency, but punishing the OP for his choice of topics isn’t really productive either. Face it, few of us, me included, are really contributing anything earth shattering and are mostly just popping in to add the appropriate smiley in place of something more substantive.

s’noJob, you made me laugh thinking about how recently an older woman (gray haired) driving one of those butt ugly Nissan Cubes hung with me on a FAST curve, and then passed me in the slow vehicle lane on the next long grade…I was at or slightly more that the posted speed limit too. She ruined my drive in a funny sort of way. If I see her again I will cut her off or something cuz I know she is out to get me...
