Hey guys, i'll be taking my car to a shop in the next week or two. I've narrowed it down to three shops in the SoCal area so I wanted help in deciding on one to take it to. The work I'll have done is a new clutch and short shifter and either rebuilding the trans or getting a new RPM Level IV trans put in. Please vote in the poll and post to let me know your opinions or experiences with any of the listed shops.
- RPM Motorsports: http://www.rpm-motors-inc.com/ (I read a bad google review about RPM but I've heard good things about them from others. I called them yesterday and the woman who picked up said that CHarlie preffers to email things rather than talk to people which struck me as odd and lacking a personal touch in a very personal service.)
I use CMS, I am completely satisfied with their work and don't hesitate to recommend them.......
However, I don't think you could wrong with any of those three. All three have a stellar reputation and loyal following. If I were you, it would probably boil down to which shop is closest......
Whichever of those shops you use, I can't imagine you'll be disappointed
I voted to RPM, but I know the other two have a great reputation.
I had some tuning done by Charlie, he did a great job. He spent a lot of time with it, getting it right.
Good luck
You can't go wrong with any of them; I vote for whichever is closest to you.
btw, you'll get more feedback in the SoCal regional forum if you're looking for firsthand experience. You probably won't hear a bad thing about any of them though... they all have a forum presence and a loyal following.
thanks for your opinions so far guys. I also posted it in the SoCal section as well for a better response. Mods, if i'm not allowed to do that please feel free to close this thread.

Whichever is closest. CMS is closest to me, so that's where I've gone.
I know the thread is a few days old but I wanted to share my opinion....
I am currently having Charlie build my 2005 CTS-V, reason, the car was mishandled in such a way by another shop that I did my research and found Charlie and his crew to be the best choice for me.
I have been dealing with RPM for a few months now and I must say that I feel like I have become friends with these guys.....so much so that they allowed me to help work on my car with them so I can learn about my car and learn what work was beuing done.
The time that Charlie, Austin and Edwin has dedicated to me thus far surpasses anything expectation I have had about spending a small fortune to completely redo my car.
They are building a 418 motor, trans, GForce rear, suspension and lots of other go fast goodies for me.......
I am no where near as well versed in car building as many of you here but I do know that Charlie manages his business as a passion, not for a dollar. That is important to me. I spoke to other shops, (they will remain nameless) and they were just not interested in gaining my business I guess.....no time was spent with me to discuss build options. Charlie spent countless hours with me over the last couple months going over every detail and he has even called me on several occassions to come visit the shop so I can see the progress of his work.....RPM has COMPLETE transparency!!!!!!!
My vote is RPM!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone is local to RPM, just ask him about the 2005 CTS-V that he is building........
Thanks!!!!!
I voted for RPM as well. Charlie, Austin, and the crew were great. I had an engine swap and blower upgrade done at another shop and after several months of going back and forth I finally took the car back with some serious issues. The shop that did the work were nice guys but they just couldn't get it running right, the driveability was horrific, not to mention the oil and water temps were extremely high for 90deg weather and my fuel pressure was at 18psi under wot which I found out after it went on RPM's dyno, I am lucky I didn't lose my motor. I was at my wits end and was about to part the car out until ZOSIXIN recommended Charlie and his crew. I shipped the car to them and they exceeded my expectations in a reasonable amount of time and now it drives like stock and makes great power and my overheating and fuel issues have been resolved for a very reasonable price. I can't thank these guys enough for saving my car and my sanity.
To the OP the best time to get a hold of Charlie or Austin on the phone is on Saturday.
