Who really needs 7 speeds - just for bragging rights and to keep up with the Germans ?? I don't use all of the 6 gears I currently have on my Z when street driving. Usually 1 to 3 to 5 as the car has way more than enough torque to handle it. 7 speeds would be a total waste IMHO. Track driving could be a different story depending on gear ratios.

Our car's reach top speed in 5th now. Our 6th gear is for highway mileage.
I'll bet they revised 6th gear so that you can reach a higher top speed than our 5th gear. I'll bet the new 7th gear will be for highway mileage.
Taller overdrive gear and shorter ratios for 1-6, sounds like a win-win to me. Stop being lazy. The fact that GM is going to continue offering a manual trans and a V8 with all the new EPA crap is pretty awesome if you ask me.
