Default StealthBox install

OK, i have a 97 c5, and am about to install a JL Audio StealthBox. In case you are not familar with the StealthBox, it is custom made to fit in the hatchback middle well.
I bought it used off of Ebay, and cant find out if i can place the original carpet lid back on top of the sub enclosure to cover it after the sub is installed???
I have a friend that does installs for a living and he says i can, but then i go to another shop and they said i can not??? Who do i believe here???
Accually, i do not intend on using the carpet piece, but instead i have had a piece of plexi-glass cut and installed the original latches on to it, and plan on having it sand blasted and place some lights under it so i get kind of a diamond-light look out of it and still be able to tell there is a sub under it but yet protect it from getting hit.
So with that said, does anyone know if i can place the plexi over it, or if i do, should i first drill holes in the section just over the sub, or does it matter at all if it gets air???
By the way, i did track the installation instructions on line, and it shows they are replacing the original with a new cover that would come from the factory with a new one. They take the latches from the old one to the new replacement, but i can not tell from the pics if the middle of the rplacement lid has like a thin material over it so as to let the sub sound come out or let air in????
Bottom line--- CAN YOU COVER UP A STEALTHBOX SUB WOOFER ENCLOSURE W/O HURTING OR KILLING THE SOUND??????????????
Someone PLEASE help, if i have even made any since here to anyone out there???
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Mine has a piece of Masonite shaped like stock cover with a piece of metal screen in the middle and covered in backless carpet uses stock latches you can still put stuff on top of it and you can't tell it even there.

Default My suggestion....

I had the same concern just over a week ago. I had a local shop install a 8 inch 100 watt powered bazooka tube installed in one of my recessed compartments with the lid installed back over it AND my Lloyd s cargo mat on TOP of that.... Wow... was I ever surprised at how well it sounded. I installed a DD Kenwood 6980 and kept my original BOSE speakers I am very well pleased how well the bass sounds...Let us know how it turns out....My suggestion is try it with the original lid iand cover it up and see how it sounds first...

the cover will fit, but not latch. it will muffle the sound just a little. i still use my cover. the metal bracing under the cover is just a little to thick to make it latch properly. but i still use mine like normal for road trips and such...

Thanks!
Got two more ? 4 u if you dont mind?--- Did you cut that capetpad/(grey material under the carpet), out of the hole or leave it?
And did you drill holes in the floor to bolt it down? I hate to drill thru the floor/hoping you say yours stays put and does not rattle. Shouldnt the metal latch hold it down good enough???
Oh man forgot one!----Where did you mount your amp?

sorry it took a while to get back.
yes. the carpet pad is gone from the hole. I didn't bolt the box down, it's heavy enough to just sit there. no rattles or anything. I mounted the Amp behind the passenger side seat. I took the carpet that hangs down directly behind the seat and put a thin piece of wood behind it, bolted it to the carpet and then mounted the Amp to it.
