Default Stock Head Unit Removal

PLEASE HELP! I know this sounds dumb, but i can not get my stereo out. It should be simple, but when i got down to the last two screws( the one on each side of the face plate) they were not there, yet the stereo will not move. All i can figure out at this point is that the previous owner has modified it and has something else holding it in but cant see behind it so i have no idea how it is attached??? Does anyone have any ideas of what i should be looking for here????
Thanks for reading!

can you get it to tilt up or down at all? i doubt the last owner ran screws in from the side..that would be hard and nothing to mount into really..if i remember right my stock unit was wedged in there pretty well...i had to give a good tug to get it come out

You know what man, tomorrow i am going to give it a good tug!!!
I think you just might be right! I was scared to pull on it,afraid i would break something, but since you mentioned it , and i cant figure out anything else, cant see what it will hurt to try at this point!
Thanks so much for your time!
I will try to let you know if that was all it was.

Well I hope he didn't do anything stupid like epoxy the tabs to the metal mounting frame... Look at the tabs where the 7mm bolts are supposed to go. Do you see any signs of adhesive?

Also, the poster above is right. The stock units do get wedged in there pretty snug. Pull the AC control unit out of the way and reach in there and give it a good tug... Feel to make sure the wiring harnesses and wires plugged into the back of it aren't caught on anything...

Also, where are you located? You should fill out your profile...

Good luck and hope that the previous owner didn't modify the mounting to where it will be a PITA for you to get the radio out.

I've had my '99's out many times over the years and only the two screws I'm aware of. Yes, early on it was a snug fit but now it comes out easily.

If I remember correctly there is a rubber pin on the stock head unit that is wedged into a hole on the brace in back of the radio. Just pull it with a little effort and it should pop right out.

well, now that the hu is out of the way, what would you think the problem with the hu radio not working about half the time? The cd works great all the time. Thought it might be the antenna cable coming loose but that was not it???

I'm in Milton neighbor, let me know if I can ever help. No electrical engineer here but I've found electrical contact cleaner is miracle stuff. If CD works then the problem could be in selector switch, I'd spray it down with contact cleaner. Does cycling radio switch multiple times help now?

I will get some of that contact cleaner over the weekend and try it and let you know.
Oh, by the way, can you tell me exactly where to spray it?
